Tahitian Black Sapote Road Test
« on: September 25, 2020, 04:56:42 AM »

Being a fan of black sapotes I won't sell you on their virtues generally. I will say they don't taste like chocolate. Seasoned forum campaigners may recall when I showed some varieties a while ago that I thought were impressive. Mossman sure is no ordinary fruit and when the flying saucer landed eyes were popping. I have laid the goose egg on you and most regular varieties have been looked at on the forum but not always in terms of taste.
So how does the esteemed Tahitian rate? Well let me say it is darn good having a rich flavour profile. It is a typical black sapote taste with no hint of bitterness towards the skin, no disagreeable aftertaste when slightly under-ripe and it is more flavoursome than most varieties I have tried including nearly all the named standards. It is a respectable fruit.

Good to hear Mike and thanks for sharing.

This is by far the most common cultivar is see in nurseries now but I’ve never had one. I grow Maher here.

Maher is flattened and big sometimes having a 5 sided appearance. They are not bad.
