I generally avoid buying on eBay, and I'm not to trying to sell. But when I googled this, I found some clashing info. Would standards be the same for shipping out of the U.S? I understand there are restricted items when it comes to listing, but does one need a license just to sell seeds and plants in particular?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Foliage on my soncoya (Annona purpurea)
« on: October 12, 2016, 02:02:35 PM »
I just wanted to show you all this tree. I don't see many posts on it. I'll probably add more info on it later, but I just wanted y'all to see how big the leaflets are! The generally grow 8-12 in. I've been neglecting to repot, and it's still thriving at a little over a year, at close to 3 ft.
The largest one is over 12 inches! The supposedly can fruit in 1-3 years.

« on: July 20, 2016, 05:22:48 PM »
I haven't attempted growing watermelon, so I buy it from different stores and markets. (But I really want to grow them.) Each one has just been bland/mediocre this year. Has anyone else been experiencing this.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Will seeds germinate in sand?
« on: July 10, 2016, 01:27:51 AM »
I've been trying to germinate Passiflora seeds with little to no results. I tried gelatin, and it went all watery at room temp. Seeds just seed there and if I'm impatient, I want to dig them up. With sand, I can at least see them against the sand. Would sand work? What kind of sand? Should I add anything to it?

My university has a study abroad program in Australia June-July of 2017. What fruits are available in the winter time? On the internet temperate fruits are primarily listed; as well as citrus. I want to know about tropical fruits. I'd love to visit a few you AU TFF members then!
Thanks in advance!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Starting Seeds in Gelatin
« on: June 04, 2016, 07:45:38 PM »
I've been desperately trying to germinate some passiflora and other difficult to germinate seeds. Plastic Baggie method grows mold really quickly and they get lost in the soil. I like the ability to check on their progress, so I found this blog post that used gelatin in Petri dishes. I couldn't find a lot on it other than the post, but it sounded successful! Cinnamon was used as an antifungal. The nitrogen in the agar is helpful in seed starting so that's a plus. The agar is a great way to prevent seedling damage. You can plant the seedlings with some of the agar intact and it will "feed" the seedlings for some time. Now that I'm not broke lol, I will try this method sometime this summer!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / ID: Strawberry Guava?
« on: June 02, 2016, 06:02:12 PM »
I got some seeds from Tradewinds that I thought never germinated. I saw this little seedling that I don't believe is a weed. Is it what I think it is? If so, I only need one plant, right?

I have bought from many sources with only a little success. I think the seeds were old. I want faster germination rates (fresh seeds). Many of these pages on eBay don't even use their own photos. Is it safe to buy international without any permits? What are some good sources? I know this should probably have been posted on the buy/sell/trade page, but I just want sources.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Question about Passiflora germination
« on: May 06, 2016, 06:21:19 PM »
I haven't been able to successfully germinate many Passiflora seeds and heard that you can use orange juice to soften the shells. Could I substitute this with lemon juice or vinegar? How long should I soak them?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What's compatible with soncoya rootstock?
« on: April 22, 2016, 09:26:53 PM »
I have 3 seedlings that are growing very quickly compared to the other Annonas I grow. I'd like to graft one, but there's not much info out there about grafting on soncoya. There is a topic for this, but when I asked, I got no answer and it hadn't been posted on for over 100 days.

I've been looking for a small plant for a good price and many online retailers want an arm and a leg.

I purchased a Passiflora edulis vine from Lara Farms last July. It flowers, but the flowers drop after a few days. Not sure if this is a self sterile flavicarpa or the vine is just not mature enough to hold fruit yet.I have attempted to contact them via email and instagram dm with no answer. :( Does anyone know what P. edulis variations they sell/ what could be the issue preventing fruiting?
Thanks in advance!
