Wiki says the best temp. for Aultalfo is 83f summers.

Sounds about right. I think the hot, hot, day temps aren't as important as many think. At the very least 83F means it can grown far outside of the steamy summers most of the continental USA has. So,I would make it a recommended try in nor cal. My seedling has taken to the ground fast. Aultalfo when you fertilize it? develops a very dark green glossy leaf. I don't notice that on Baileys or Manila.
Its going to have to grow more for me to see if its more ornamental in the landscape as well as delicious.

i read a research paper a while back
they had used several different species (6 i think)
papaya and guava im pretty sure were 2 of them. i dont remember the rest...

The paper said there was a temp that the plants "peaked" at,
and anything over that temp, the plant slowed its growth.
that temp, if i remember rigfht, was around the mid 80s for most plants

There was a second point for most of the plants studied
in which , over that temp, it stopped growing all together.
if i remember right, the temps were very similar for most of the plants studied
it was in the mid 90s
I wish mango had been one of the plants, i would habve paid more attention
and saved the paper.

I use my hose when its hot, usually over 90
to spray the leaves of my plants.
Since my backyard is a bit of a jungle, that mist really cools things down
i can feel it.

Ah, if Wiki said it it must be true.   ::)   I am sure Tim Thompson would agree that Ataulfo is extremely cold tolerant.

As a matter of fact, I think the mountains of Ifaho is a prime location for frowing mangoes.  Dont know what South Floridians and other growers in tropical regions should stop growing mangoes altogether.

Hmm I regularly have day temps in the 90s and my trees and plants growing like crazy. Including papaya and guava. I never spray my plants with water either.

Well,we know tropicals grow fantastic in the hot and humid southeast weather. For me its finding the ones that can for some reason thrive in less than hot summers. Ataulfo they said on wiki was first discovered in Chiapas,Mexico. That's a tropical climate so maybe it was found growing in some high valley?
I mean no need to argue Florida grows tropicalia at a fantastic rate. I'm going for a good rate in norcal.

Wiki's article on Altaulfo. Funny that they would mention that tid bit of info that is lacking in other Mango write ups.

In AZ, its more about how much water you can give it. I'm a newbie myself, but other AZ growers have good success even at 122F as long as there is daily watering. I'm sure this only applies to gardens that are so strong to the point of humus is forming naturally.
