A friend of mine asked me to identify this tree; he said to me he got the seeds from me when I came back from Peru. I don't remember. The seeds are big (about 5 cm), striated.

On the left Pometia pinnata (called now "brazilian longan" !) and in the right Nephelium ramboutan-ake (Pulasan)

Pasar tamu (Week market) is on thursday in keningau where the weather is less wet than in Tenom.


Durio kutejensis (Durian dalit in Sabah)


Baccaurea lanceolata (Buah liposu) sour only the skin is use for cooking


Nephelium lappaceum (wild ramboutan)


Tobacco. In Sabah farmers sell their tobacco in some Pasar tamu as keningau, Temparuli, Kota Belud, etc...They roll their cigarettes in leaves of Nypa frutescens.

Three kinds of cocoa fruits about their form from left to right "angoleta, amelonado, cundeamor" both are criollo type (the sellers said)

After the cut test it's easy to see that there's no criollo !

   Fruits and seeds of Elateriospermum tapos. Nice tree with red young leaves from Sarawak.
The taste of the seeds remind me almonds. As it's an Euphorbiaceae we can eat just few kelampaÏ or we have to cook it.

Three markets interesting in and around Kuching : Satok (Saturday evening and Sunday morning), Batu Kava (Thursday evening but I forgot my camera) and Ten Miles every day.

Bekuno is a small town 35 Km far from Miri in the south west. Two years ago I found a Durio testudinarium tree...Now that town is surrounded by oil palm..

Asam Empaong  Baccaurea lanceolata EUPHORBIACEAE very sour


Buah Uchong Baccaurea angulata, very attractive fruit with a sweet and tasty flesh


Duku Lansium domesticum MELIACEAE the real Duku (thick skin, round form) as a lot of langsat are sold with that name and are not !

I went to Miri hoping to eat the Durio dulcis (Tuttong) but the answer was allways the same "tidak ada"...

Sibu: located just before the delta of the Batang Rajang that town own an immense market every day where all the farmers upriver and downriver (large swamp area) come to sell their products (seafruit, handicarft, vegetable, poultry, jungle fruits, etc...) for me the best market I know...


From the botton right to the top left, Durio kutejensis (Nyekek), Durio zibethinus (Durian) and Durio graveolens (Isu)


Dimocarpus longan ssp malesianus (Isau) Sarawak owns 30 types of that fruit. That one is juicy sweet and the seed is small (very interesting)



Nephelium rambutan-ake: Pulasan (Green called Buah mak, purple and red) behind Garcinia mangostana and Nephelium lappaceum
