Tropical Fruit Discussion / What is wrong with this pineapple?
« on: February 07, 2021, 12:38:57 PM »
This is in full sun, well draining soil. Lows have been mid 40s. Not sure if it is cold damage or sunburn(I think pineapples are fine in full sun?)

58
Lowest temp has been mid 40s, and it a bit wet in this spot. I'm wondering too if I should move it to full sun - the plant is about two feet tall.

The fruit I have tasted was mediocre but maybe someone else knows more about different cultivars. The trees are very pretty.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Eugenia myrcianthes - Uvaia do Campo

Got some seeds from Trade Winds Fruits for "Eugenia myrcianthes - Uvaia do Campo" which germinated in my greenhouse. I was unable to dig up any info on the internet about the plant. Does anyone that has grown it have any advice about the plant? Is it the same plant as eugenia pyriformis?

You're in Santa Maria, go to Orpet Park in Santa Barbara and taste some from the tree there in the spring. Tastes like garlic, pretty unpleasant although apparently they taste ok when very underripe?

I've only had the ones generically labeled "Satsuma" at the store -.where can I try specific types? Which should I look for?

Can any of these be rooted from cuttings?

I would said yes.  I rooted Shangri-La with aloe during last Oct and they all show new growth now.

What is rooting with aloe? Haven't heard of that technique

Marina variety fruit is bad, prefer other types I've tried more. Marina is the prettiest tree though.

Size and productivity can be effected by it so it would cool if it were that productive without hand pollination.
Does he hand-pollinate?

What does that have to do with anything?

This tree is in SB area, and I've seen them at the farmers market for a month (still hard when picked). These have a slight yellow tinge but still hard, no give.

My Vernon fruit are still hard but haven't seemed to get any bigger than the baseball size they are currently at. If I pick now will they ripen completely ? Or do I need to wait until a certain state on the tree

Curious what the ruby glow fruit is like, didn't know if having a frederick to cross pollinate would let it set fruit.
