I'm not sure I would complain that much about them - aren't they controlling insect pests?  The iguanas are the real pitas when they start eating all your crops.

I've made fruit butter from saps that turned out awesome - in fact this thread reminds me I need to make  more!  Fruit butter I think is easier to get right then jelly because you're cooking until you get desired consistency - jelly making has been kinda hit or miss with consistency in my hands.  The recipe I used I made a simple syrup from 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar then added two cups of sapodilla and cooked down until the consistency was right -  about 45 minutes.  Added a little vanilla extract which I think really compliments the flavor.  It's borderline too sweet but I love it on toast etc.  I think it would work with mamey - maybe add a little rum to complement the flavor?  If you try it let us know how it turns out.

Jack is right that's a centipede, they are carnivorous and not what is causing the issue with your plants - you need to look further to see what's causing the problem.

Have you ammended your soil with manure?  Kinda sounds like what you see with certain herbicides.

Not a fly but a leafhopper  :)  Cool looking insects despite that they are feeding off the sap of your trees.

What homemade soil mixes has anyone been successful with jabos in containers?  I am trying to build a suitable mix without having to resort to buying Scott's Miracle Grow etc.

I'm doing Sugar Baby this year - IME it has produced well for me in the spring and summer,  tastes very good, and can be trellised which is important for me since I am lacking in space.

Great news!  Is the fruit still only available on weekends?

Many insects can just close up the spiracles and survive for quite some time.  But I would think it to be interesting to try.  I think of this similar to fish medicine; oftentimes a brief change in salinity will cause the parasites to leave the fish but not kill the fish; maybe this could work in the plant world in a similar parallel.

I received some cuttings from emegar and I was wondering how to propagate these.

Trim off the bottom one inch of bark. Dip in rooting hormone, Keep in shade and tented with plastic bag. Not easy to root from cuttings.

So better just to try from seed?  What percentage of rooting have you had with these Oscar?

Certainly nice to have you here Mike - Congrats and thanks for providing such a great place.

If you really want a nice looking hedge that produces maybe find an improved cultivate of Surinam cherry.  I have a hedge on one side of my backyard  (neighbors hedge)  The fruit are not good but far as hedges go I really like it and it is quite productive despite pruning.  There are several threads on the forum about improved varieties - see if you can try a couple prior to purchase.

Adam do the fruit world a favor and graft a bunch!  Definetely interested in a grafted plant when you have them ready.

I had a chance to meet Adam over the weekend, see his nursery and pick up some plants - great guy, great plants and great prices.  Thanks for everything and I look forward to future plants from you!

Its still difficult to ascertain species from the pics but this is definetely not a may or June beetle.  This beetle doesn't have the lamellate antennae of a scarab.  I agree with Mike it looks like a Chrysomelid.
