First properly ripened Taralay consumed today and it was divine.  Sturrock held its own also.  Had my one and only ValCarrie and it was top notch, great strong flava yet not overwhelming.

Ivory I picked up from Squam.

How is Sturrock? Can you give a review

I agree, the Valcarries I had this year were great

My point was that I planted Neelam because it was one of Richard Campbell's Curator Choices, as was Angie.  I've long since chopped it down, and have considered getting rid of Angie as well.  What has saved Angie is that it's a reliable producer of beautiful fruit, it's fairly early, and it's easily managed.  But the flavor leaves a lot to be desired.

John, I 100% agree with your statement.
The choice listed are not the best tasting. I've been burned by their selection as well and as a result have been top working trees to correct it (looking at you Lancetilla).

I don't know who the list is geared towards but its definitely not the mango enthusiast (us).
I think its more for people who would never plant a tree because its "too hard" to grow, and are fine with randoms mangos during the season.
If these people are the intended audience then, I can't argue with most of these selections. (easy to grow, not crazy vigorous)
Although I'll curious to why Pickering is not on there.

I usually recommend Glenn to a person who only wants one tree.

I don't have a problem with Neelam, its not the best but when I'm eating it in September its good.
That said, I am slowly top working it to Honey Kiss

Also what kind of fruit trees would be better along the north as wind break. ie black sapote , inga, santol ect..

I'd have the row and columns spacing different (something like 25ft rows, 15ft columns) so you can get machinery in between columns of trees.
Might want to think of planting Katuk as a wind break, the grow to be a full a 6ft bush in about a year, plus if you can find a market for them they are delicious

i think imported mangos are usually irradiated. So the seeds will likely not be viable.

Thanks for the review.

A little bit of acidity in jackfruit would it put it in my top five fruits.
If that trait is consistent I'd get one for sure.

Hopefully the new hybrids will taste good. It would be cool if the new varieties could impart disease resistance onto the grafted scions. I hope the Zills will incorporate these new varieties into their breeding program.
Simon

Did she suggest the possibility of a cold hardy Mango... maybe a Mango for Canada?  ???

Yep, I heard her say that as well. I think the Canada part was an exaggeration though.
She did seems pretty confident on getting them to Tallahassee, FL.

Unless I'm mistaking, I think that's the whole point of their breeding program. 650 hybrids so I'm thinking these 5 are the best of the bunch.
I don't suspect they are aiming to market these to us mango snobs :o. Seems more for commercial success.

Awesome find Simon.

They are releasing 5 hybrids in 2018 (if I heard correctly)
I guess I'll plant (graft to seedlings) all 5 on my canal bank

I got Kari, Lara and Pine Island Gold (aka Reds Dumpster)

As much as I love a good fresh peach, just dont feel like dealing with those little bastards.
I never tried growing them yet so I figured I'll give it a shot.
The literature say its fruits in April, I don't really have any fruit at them time so hopefully I can give it enough attention.

Anyways my current yard is an experiment of newer varieties of tree, along with crazy multi-grafts all crowded together.
I plan on evaluating and taking the stuff I like the best.

need to get some more organza bags...or bag the whole tree

I've been trying to get my hands on one of these for a while. It seems at least in South Florida they are hard to come by.

This was taken yesterday, I bought one so only one left
15 gallon, UF Best, $60, Sunrise (near Sawgrass mall) Home Depot

really Rob?

Fruit is available but please share where the trees have ever been mase availableor sold. I suppose you could pay top dollar to get one from TT but all you would wind up with is a Lemon Zest.

I think Behl did not read the post about the broken "OS" tree and just read the title. Lol.

Yup, thats what i figured happen.
It was Click Bait targeted to all of us due to our addiction

How can i get a hold of a grated jumbo kesar tree?

There are a few nurseries that ship.
Pine Island, Plant o gram etc.
Do a forum (or google) search and you should see a few results
I think we have a sticky thread about it too.

I'd be happy to help, although i do live in Coral Spring and depending on the size of the potted plants I may not have enough room.
Also, just install a drip irrigation system but I don't think i have enough equipment to extend it to 50 pots.

Up to you
