Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Pineapple Pleasure Productivity
« on: January 05, 2023, 08:46:09 AM »
I have had some fruit the last couple years off a topworked branch of PP. 10b Boynton. I agree with Alex, this year the harvested fruit was not like other years, it didn't have that incredible flavor like usual due to the rain

Wow, very detailed and scholarly data Alex! I might add that for me, zone 10b Sweet Tart and Florigon have never failed to bloom for me in the last 6-7 years, as well as Dot for the last 20 years

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango production

Hey mango nuts! I got a question. My neighbor Waters incessantly. Is a bit senile and just loves watering things :-) well it seems to be good for the tree growth, but I have had some problems with production. If the tree doesn't have a dry period to go dormant, will it still bloom? Thanks in advance for your replies

Anybody using grafting wax when grafting mangoes? If so how you use it? What I'm getting is to just paint it over the union. It's it necessary?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Right Choice? Cogshall
« on: January 08, 2019, 08:27:00 AM »
I assume by topworking you are not suggesting he replace the entire canopy (making a different tree) just that he add another small variety creating a small multi-variety tree with 2 perhaps 3 varieties?
Can either make a " cocktail tree " with several varieties or just one, either way. That way you don't have to dig it up and start over with establishing roots and so forth

So pulling the tree up and replacing it should be considered.

Dang, not what I was hoping. This going to be a hard decision to make. It's kind of heart breaking to pull out a perfectly good tree.

So Honey Kiss or Pina Colada should be considered? Any other varieties if you could only have one tree? Is there a nursery that I should visit to pick up a plant and if so what size container should I be looking for?

Top work the tree, It's fun and rewarding!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Inducing Lychee bloom Florida
« on: December 31, 2018, 07:23:24 AM »
Last year, when it was in the low 40's at night I put ice on the lychee. It bloomed. Is this actually an effective way to do this or coincidence?  I put about 50# of ice around the roots on top of the soil. It lasted all night and half the next day

Truly tropical sells trees

Dry conditions = concentrated sugars.
I have had lots of South Florida mangos that explode with flavor!

Leaves are messed up on the edges
