The gentleman, Bob, who ran it apparently passed away from the Covid19 virus. Shame...he was a nice guy with a great selection of trees.  :(

I live in zone 9b and grow a bunch of them. They do really well here.

Here we are years later...7 years after my original post :)

The tree planted at my father's house has been a success. It is a moderate-vigorous grower and a reliable fruit-setter. Not too heavy but consistent. The mangoes I have had off of it have been intensely sweet with an orange-ish undertone (reminds me a bit of the very sweet Lemon Zest). It is a delicious mango. The descriptions given by others on this thread about the fruit and tree were spot-on!

Here's the tree (pic taken this week) being pruned by my dad and one of the fruits next to a Natural Mystic dragon fruit.

We too thought it is a Beverly, but I didn't want to unduly influence the members here by mentioning that!   :)

It is quite a good mango!  I'm glad its in the yard.

I bought this tree several years back. It was tagged as an Edward. We have 2 Edward trees and this is not an Edward.

The tree is slow growing, spreading somewhat, and bears heavy crops of round fruits weighing usually 450- 650 grams (1-1.4 pounds) that take a long time to mature. The skin of ripe fruits is very light yellow/yellowish (top) green (bottom) overall with a pink blush if exposed to sun. Fruits usually don't mature until August or September. The thick flesh is yellowish- orange without much fiber and is quite good and sweet -- not quite a top tier mango, but very flavorful. The sap smells resinous much like a Kent, not funky like an Alphonso.

Had 2 Marlys mangos this week. Found them to be very good-excellent. Like an improved Bailey's Marvel (which I've never much cared for; the one tree that I had them from, they had a slight Aspartame aftertaste to them).  Bought them at Excaliburs

In order (caveat: Maha's, Kents, Alphonsos, Grahams, Keitts still need to come in).

1st place: Sweet Tart. Fantastic mango. Loved it.
2nd place: all tied, all excellent, all top tier: Dot, Mallika, Pickering, Spirit of '76, Edward

Isn't the volcano near you erupting? How is that affecting the property?

Yes.

I was the poster who said the Mallika tasted like carrots; and they did one year. However, in subsequent years, if they are picked at the right time they are some of the best mangoes I've had. However, they are finicky on when to be picked, and if picked too early/too late can have a carrot taste or fizz grape soda taste (overripe). I would not ax the tree we have.

Congratulations on your nice tree! I wouldn't prune a thing; let it grow. It needs the leaves for energy collection.

Our early Florigons were washed out. The later ones were quite good, sweet with a citrus-hint.

Mango season was very sparse for our family this year. Of the ones we got from our trees, the Edward and Maha Chanoks were outstanding. Two of the finest I have ever eaten. I also had some Florigons, some Kents, some Mallikas (superb when perfectly ripe), and 1 Sweet Tart (the first one a smallish tree has ever produced). The ST was lackluster, but this is likely due to it being the first fruit.

My Diana RWS Panther and Gamo Whisper pellet rifles each shoot at around 1200 fps. That will most definitely pierce and kill an iguana.

3 of the best mangos I've ever eaten have been an Edwards, Maha Chanok and a Mallika (perfectly ripened Mallika...which is hard to obtain it seems).

I got crops on 3 of my trees this year: Mauritius, Hak Ip and Sweet Heart. All 3 were excellent (hard to rank) but the Sweet Heart and Hak Ip stood out for me. My wife liked the Mauritius, Sweet Heart and then Hak Ip.

I have a never ending battle with scale (Banana and Glover scale) heavily infesting my lychees and longans. My oil applications and Malathion applications have been futile. I did have success this year using (per gallon): 1 cup of rubbing alcohol, 2 tablespoons baby shampoo and 2 tablespoons vegetable/olive oil. I treated 1 week apart and heavily sprayed the underside of the leaves. It didn't kill all of them but it knocked them way back.

I yanked a Barbie Pink guava; the fruit smelled like cat pee. I have a 10' Sweetheart lychee that is on the short list to go; it's only had 2 lychees (one a year) and has been in the ground for 6 years. I also have a Kohala longan that doesn't want to fruit so it is on the way out. I'm giving both until next spring to see if they hold fruit. If not, the saw is coming out!

I had someone steal 3-4 Cushman mangos off a tree I planted next to a building I own. It has a surveillance system and I saw on the DVR that is was a homeless guy picking them; I wasn't too irked since I figured he needed the food...it was a shame that he picked them 3 weeks early and they probably never ripened properly.

However, people that are not homeless and steal fruit are THIEVES, period. Stealing is stealing, no matter what it is. The older I get the more I realize that there is a large percentage of our population with a serious lack of morals, scruples, and manners.

The Duncan mango I had yesterday had a pretty strong resinous taste in the spoonfuls taken down near the skin. It was overpowering and not very pleasant. I'm not sure whether to keep the tree or hoick it.

A good Edward is unbeatable imo.

A 9-tray Excalibur. We have done about 100 dehydrating cycles through it (fruit, jerky, spices, veggies), and it works great. It is somewhat loud but is also large...nice capacity.
