Jackfruit problems!
« on: January 05, 2013, 07:21:25 AM »
I planted this jackfruit about 6 mths ago. I have fertilized it with miracle grow twice. It gets water when it drys out.  I'm stumped.

Was it in deep shade before you planted it out into the full sun? It sorta looks like what happens when you move a plant thats been in the shade for a long time into the sun, but i dont know if jacks would be susceptible to that.

It doesn't look like sunburn to me.

It may need better fertilization and watering. It's been 6 months and you only fetilized twice with miracle gro? That's not good enough. Get a good fruit tree fertilizer like Espomas Citrus Tone. I use monthly on all of my trees. Also, it's dry now and your jackfruit tree is relatively newly planted so you may want to water more. Is your tree mulched? If not, add mulch.

Is it possible that you could not use imgur as a host please? They remove everything after 6 months. The best hosting is such hosting as Picasa, photobucket, etc. Thanks

My J-31, planted in the ground a few months ago, did this recently.  I'm not sure whether to blame it on my not watering it while I was out of town for 10 days (no rain),  or possibly on the cooler than normal weather we had during that time.

My Borneo Red, still in a pot, looks great.  It got regular watering but went through the same cool temps. I think some jacks hate cool, dry Florida weather.

Yesterday I did give it some extra iron. As far as the cold,  it did get down to 42 around Xmas.  It gets enough water.  I wait until it drys out a little before I water again. About every 3 to 4 days.
It was in the sun as far as I know.
Administrator... Sorry about the hosting sight.  Ill use photobucket from now on. :)

I see this problem in my jakfruit and kwai muk plants often.

I have associated it with insufficient fertilization, in particular lack of potassium (K)...

Did I miss where you said which variety of jakfruit this is?  My bet is that it is a temperature issue......which when coupled with dessicating winds and low rainfall, usually causes this type of damage to the leaves of jakfruit trees.

My plants (seedlings) are growing in a greenhouse on alkaline soil.
In my plants, this problem tens to show more on the older leaves of the plant,
which also seems to suggest a nutritional problem...
