I'd love some 40's. Need to get the south Florida trees reset from these past two mild winters. We need lychee temps!  Bring it on!  It's only 60 in eastern Martin County.

Temperatures of 50-55F are enough to stress lychees into flowering. No need for temperatures of 40F, unless you want to also damage all your tropicals?

Temps of 40s is good for my apples, pears, and plums though and if it doesnt kill my lychees then bring it. Now below 40 I can do without. You guys can keep that north of I-4 if you please.

Only got down to a balmy 54 this morn, crap!

Well, a week of upper 40s and 50s didn't work for me nor most of SFL last year.  Lychee crop sucked.  My  most sensitive plant is a Pantin Mamey, so I can take 40s without too  many issues.  I intentionally avoided the more cold sensitive species.  I don't want to worry plants dying every time a cold front comes down.

We are in the low 40s. Didnt even make it to 40. Low 40s is perfect though. Nothing I have is that sensitive and its cold enough to benefit a good portion of my trees and not cold enough to turn the heat on.

Weather forcasters did well here...right on target, nice change. The light winds kept the frost away. 4 more months to go, lol...

I feared the worst...we hit 46 degrees at 3 oclock yesterday afternoon!!!

Can't say I'm not loving this cooler weather after 8 months of severe heat and humidity...I just wish we didn't get colder than 40 degrees,lol...

Guess the weather people were just trying to get us to watch the news. They called for 29 for me. According to the weather channel site I only went down to 39

Amazing, almost 30 degrees contrast today between North and South FL. I always had firm believe that person living close to number 26 should have planted persimmons instead of mangoes.

In the 30's last night , the GH was a nice toasty 65f , The Uncovered trees look ok so far, I know it takes 1 week to tell the damage but I can tell right away by inspecting my banana plant leaves they get funky when damaged, all look ok..
I have all my mangos, avocados Covered.

I have a uncovered  2,5 year Old Avocado seedling, I sprayed all the leaves with a mixture of Soapy water with Epsom salt just to see if it would help with the frost, it too looks ok.

Like wise...My buds are indeed flowers that emerged over the last 2 weeks....I also have fruit that are days within full ripening. I also have 3 sets of flushes on the same branch holding Fruit...Not sure whats going on with my 12 gallon NDM.

Clay - pretty cool!  But I would hazard an opinion that once (or if) the
NDM goes in the ground the November flowering behavior your noticing
now will change to a late winter early spring event.....

Only got down to 45 degrees here in the SoCal desert, and everything seems
to be locking down growth for the winter....

Gary we hit 45 lows too...I'm wondering how close our temps are in comparison with just being an hour away....Hopefully Winter Lows reflect about the same considering you great success in yuor Winter Battles....I'll be putting up some PVV structures this weekend......going to wing it and see if I can get in touch with my inner Bob the Builder.

OK it was pretty bad here in St Augustine , I woke up to a Frozen Lawn , Ice on my Windshield and Crispy Cold !.

Ok so by the look at my Banana Plants they all suffered Burt Leaves , But There not dead.
To my amazement I tried an experiment yesterday before the 1st Frost , with a 2.5'' Year old Avocado seedling I think it may be a Monroe,

What I did was Drench all the leaves and trunk with a mixture of Soapy water and Epsom salt , I drenched the Avocado seedling, My Tangelo & Pumelo trees , I did not cover any of the 3 trees , and all appear as if no frost ever occurred .
No brown leaves I can't believe what I'm seeing, there was frost everywhere this morning.

I uncovered the Untreated Mango Trees & Avocado trees & all did well , I did trim some top leaves & branches that turned brown due to contacting with the frost cloth, I expected the worst , Was not to bad, Now all I have to deal with, is cutting down all the banana burnt leaves..

I hope mother nature lets us recover from this one before she hits us with another Frost ! ;)..

Ed..

hey central FL...(i'm sure even south FL), go outside and check out the brown anoles, they are really hating this cold weather!  they weren't ready for the weather change at my house...i find them all over the yard, debilitated by the cold..they are really easy to pick up and play with....like a sleeping child....but I was trying to pick up one that got feisty and tried to bite...something like an alcoholic lizard with a hang over, trying to hurt the person who's waking them up....hahaha..i have too much fun watching the lizards....I really have learned a lot about them, just by trying to grow tropical fruit, and inadvertently creating such a suitable habitat for them.
