Adam, is the tree a multi rootstock tree or multiple trees in one hole or just one tree that branched out at a very early stage?

I'm not sure if a freeze did that, or a hurricane...I will have to ask the owner....but there is only one tree!  I've never seen one quite like it!

Alot of my A. squamosa trees do that. Its pretty normal for trees that are getting old or are damage to replenish themselves with new trunks coming from the base of the tree. Pond Apples do it as well.

Good to know that certain trunk damage could cause new ones to come up. Now, I need to find out how to provoke it. Such trees always look very strong and very healthy.

I hope you have kept one seedling, Adam, just in case you have a winner.

I went ahead and topworked both seedlings...I need a sure thing!

I was a bit disappointed when the seedling made a fruit that was nothing like the parent plant.

Wow, that is huge! I wonder what conditions allow this phenomenon to occur? I want to give it a go, so send me a message if that's fine. I live in Arizona, but I will try my best to keep it healthy. ;D

As eastern Mexico is the center of origin of the Sugar-Apple (Annona squamosa), that is where there is most diversity.

The yellow skins of the Custard-Apples at the start of this thread is pretty typical of Annona reticulata in Central america.
