Bubble gum flavored Cherimoya?
« on: March 09, 2019, 03:10:17 PM »
I had a couple Cherimoyas (from the South Coast Cherimoya sale) that tasted like bubble gum and they were by far the best I've had recently.  (My trees have been launguishing in pots so I haven't gotten fruit yet.)

Which varieties have that flavor or similar strong fruity flavor?

Can’t help you on that, but wishing you luck. Sounds great.

I once had a wild pawpaw that tasted like bubble gum. It was pretty cool.

Must be in the annonaceae genetics.

I’ve been told by JF that Booth cherimoya has this bubble gum flavor profile.

Like the Lemon Meringue mango I guess I could eat a couple a year.

Over multiple years, I’ve reported that El Bumpo has a bubblegum flavor. Several other people have also noticed the bubblegum flavor in El Bumpo after I mentioned it.

hi barath,

I want to chime in (years later, I know) and say that a few months ago I also had a Cherimoya with strong notes of bubblegum. I loved it. Based on the physical characteristics, I believe it was an El Bumpo. I'll attach the picture below.

Cheers!

Awesome thanks.  Where did you find them at a market?  (Or was the picture taken a while ago?)

Rudy #20 also has that bubblegum flavor but I don’t know if it is as consistent as El Bumpo.
