I can't wait until my harvest looks that good. I keep buying plants, and planting seeds, but they are sooo young that I get very little fruits for my labor.

We use it as a hedge, it is drought tolerant, and supply is in abundance.
I smell the coffee two, but different aroma, Next year I'll plant some more trees
Those emancipatory evil residents reminds me of Al Bundy tricks to get his new bathroom in the garage.
Few trees here "newly planted" are more than 30 years old
Many were lost to anything from Horses vandalism, reversing cars, droughts or swampy winters
My only regret is that not enough trees were planted
It is nice to fill the gaps with melons tomatoes, you know, it keeps you busy
Reward is almost instant, Keeping fresh picked melons in the kitchen
for a week or two will spread wonderful scent, dissolving the wait for late crop

Opuntia looks good, the seeds look small as well. Highly productive from the looks of it. Any Jujubes growing?

There are two varieties shown here:
Tunas in a box at the beginning of the post were just slightly over done
We ate them and nothing left to show (orange colored inside)

The open one bellow was quite tasty firm and succulent
I wouldn't describe him over ripe
(I did piled him a bit roughly and smashed him a bit)

Very cool, I was always interested in Opuntia varieties growing in the Old World. Just curious how they have adapted and changed over the years since introduction from the Americas. I have a couple Opuntia with similar coloration on the fruit exterior and interior. I have become an Opuntia sp. collector the last few years. I now need to find a white skinned Opuntia fruit.

Hi nullzero the local Jujube are very bland, once at young age got trapped with my hair
by its vicious thorns.
An thought had crossed my mind to grow the better tasting cultivars
But since I never tasted it, wonder if it can compete with Medjool Dates
or dose it take completely different curve at the taste niche
Opuntia made admirable entrance into the old world (Even ancient you might say)
Wile going out to pick a fruit for you to see, just spotted that Agama stellio
Swimming and struggling in an water container

The better Jujubes have a very sweet pleasant apple like taste (without the acid). The flesh is on the dry side, but has a good spongy texture with a little juice. Its a great fruit (The improved selections) to grow, especially in an arid environment.

FG Thanks, vegetables has their charm as well, the fresh grown taste nothing like the bought ones, same as with fruits you are growing for the woodpeckers delight

nullzero although my thoughts about planting Jujubes are splited
basically any drought tolerant fruiting plant is something to consider
especially if it adapts well enough and do not require much maintenance
also the birds could benefit, and shade and wind break will support other plants
Do you intend to propagate tuna blanca for your collection from pads.

Really nice thing about growing vegetables is it seems like almost instant gratification. Well, months compared to many years for fruit trees!
