There are a few big fruiting Pouteria Hypoglauca tree's at fruit and spice. I'd imagine most of the seeds and seedlings going around are most easily collected and distributed from these tree's. It's pretty good!

Partly based on this thread, I became interested in another sapote, the cinnamon apple.

It seems to be very difficult to find, but I lucked out and got one through Facebook.

I also went down to Exotica. They currently have two. The owner stated one he did not want to sell, it was about four and a half feet tall, supposedly 8 to 10 years old. Nice leaf structure.

The second would he offered to sell did not have as many leaves, was around 3 and 1/2 ft tall, and was reportedly around the same age. So if you are interested in another sapote, and don't mind going to San Diego, take a look!

Thanks for the description Nate!
I picked all the fruits a bit early so they would stay best in transit.
The fruit does keep very well , but can split when super ripe and the stem is no longer attached.

Still somehow not quite available. Amazing this hasn’t got out and grafted on Indica somewhere from 10+ years ago. I haven’t seen or heard of a fruiter in any of the 50 or “territories “.

Why would he shut down his succesfull scam?
Someone needs to shut that shit down , but it ain’t gonna be the guy stacking benny’s. Why would he now, after all this.

They should shut down their website if they are still not delivering any orders. He never did answer me when I sent him a private message/email so there must be something else going on.

I have not seen the one's you mentioned in message. The only cultivars I have heard of are the ones from Papaya Tree.
there is a tree at quail gardens, 1 at fullerton and 1 at Ben Poirer's and those are the 3 accesible fruiting Lucuma in CA I know of, but none named varieties.

Jonah, do the moist-fleshed lucuma varieties have names? I’d like to be sure I get the best ones eventually.

I was going to mention "Gary", but y'all have way more Mango experience than me.
I tried 1 Sheehan brought to fruit and spice park and it was good , I was also on mango flavor overload at that point so it was all awe and wonder and flavor bombs.

I harvested alot of Guabiju fruits today, they are delicious and sweet. zero sour or astringency or off flavors.
It's wild the harvest is happening in April whereas years past it's started in November.
Quite a hardy tree and has been easy to grow . May prefer a more sub tropical climate than Tropical.

Scions $5  5 minimum or combine with seed pack
Pack of 10 seeds $50 including shipping and will include a Guabiju fruit or 2 for you to try . yep, fruit.

Agreed.
No one has enough fruit coming in on even a handful of tree's though to follow the way, I think it's only a matter time though . Everyone should planting lots of seeds and keep sourcing from as many different tree's as possible to find one that does great and fruits prolifically. Glad to see good moist type Lucuma scion going around the last couple of years.
Both of these fruits have to sit on the tree for a year, so they have to hold over whatever winter brings their way and ripen through it.

Green sapote and lucuma seem to be the only reasonable sapote candidates for CA, imo, unless you're down in SD.

The area's north of you in the Bay Area get 80's and 90's in summer.
If your above and beyond the norma fog line there's a chance.
Plant it surrounded by concrete, stucco , rocks , whatever thermal insulation.
Don't waste your money on a $500 25 gallon Manila Mango unless it will make your lady extremely happy, You'll likely have better luck planting your own Manila seeds or a Manila from LaVerne.
Lots of SoCal nurseries stock FL Mango tree's. Check the label to make sure .

Its all about the roasted seeds with Bicolor. That's where the excellent flavor and nutrition is.
Chocolate is awesome. bicolor kinda tastes like bland yogurt to me. I would eat it if I was starving but it’s not something I would ever get excited about

New shadehouse and worm bins are looking great!
Just wondering about the metal lids and how hot it can get in there. It looked like all the worms were at the bottom when you poked around in there and the temp on top was 88.
And then you manually scoop it onto a little trailer to move around the farm?

Where have fruit tree prices not been going up?
Where else can you buy Cherimoya’s for $15 ,sounds like a great price to me.
And your supporting a local non profit that serves a great purpose for the community, a way better direction for dollars to go rather than Home Depot.

So you have found the traditional method of cleaning Pataxte seeds with sand works best?
Thanks for the feedback.

Can try Planting Justice in Oakland. I think they ship as well. best

My seedlings stopped growing and are too small for grafting.  I am looking for seedlings to purchase as rootstock and will touch base if I find them.  Otherwise, I may have to postpone any scions.  Thank you!
