Title: Please help identify these atemoya at new nursery
Post by: Mikey on May 17, 2018, 12:37:10 AM
Hi,

Last year Anthony Ortiz at Atemoya Nursery posted some pictures of atemoya he does not know the variety.  Please help me identify these atemoya.  I took some cuttings to graft onto my tree and it is pushing.

These are his pictures.  He specialized in wholesale of atemoya.  His new nursery is called atemoya tropical nursery.

Anothony said “This Atemoya splits easily, grows really fast, the inside of the fruit splits into sections like a sugar apple, the meat is not as chewy and firm like African Pride. The flavor is not very good similar to lisa Atemoya”

I saw the tree and it is near a pond so i think the lack of flavor is due to too much water.

I think it can be paxton’s Prolific?  What do u think it is?

I don't recognize it.  I'm not familiar with Paxton's; and it isn't likely Gefner, per your description of poor flavor and non-chewiness.

Not Paxton's Prolific. That's a fairly popular variety here.

Nothing like a PP (akaKJ Pinks) or in fact any of the mammoth clan. Not AP, lisa, Gefner or mainstream types and not an Australian type for that matter, except some superficial resemblance to tropic sun. Mmmm it is a bit like Taiwan Pineapple.

I was referring to the atemoya in the picture and what is was not rather than commenting on quality. It seems the main reason lisa is not recommended is poor productivity.
