I am confused!  Seems to me I just finished reading a thread saying that the best place to buy a mango tree in California is at one of the "Big Box Stores", with their low price and great service.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Secret to a Full Mango Bloom
« on: February 26, 2014, 08:39:27 PM »

Found the secret to a full mango bloom!  Mulch the tree with as many broken down lawn mowers as one can fit under the tree canopy.  Throw in any extra scrap metal for good measure.  Then ignore tree!

Nice looking Monroe!  Be sure and watch the lower green tape so it doesn't constrict the trunk.

Carlos, be sure and plant at least 1 Edward tree!

Try Hobby Lobby Stores for the Excel Handle.  That's where I got mine, back in the model
Plane section.

Back pack are great.  I use one for roundup and another for fungicides.  For those days that it feels too heavy, I just fill it 1/2 way.

I highly recommend a Stihl gas powered pole saw.  Have used them for years and they do a great job and are a good compliment to your traditional chainsaw.  They hold up and are worth the price.

I also have tasted fruit from Squam's Mulgoba tree and agree that this is a great tasting mango!

Just a reminder for everyone to sterilize their pruners between cuts from different trees to prevent the spread of diseases like malformation.

Use protection!

Yes, we don't want any STD's!  (Scion transmitted diseases)

Edwards is still a very popular curator's choice.  Sold out in 90 minutes  :)

Jonathan,

Nice looking grove.  If I may ask, what tree spacing do you have?  Row to row and tree to tree?  Trying to do a similar planting.

68
Might be mango die back.  Usually a fungal infection.  Copper spray should help along with a good nutritional program, especially one that includes the use of the minor elements, iron, zinc, manganese and boron.

Jeff, I would like a,pineapple pleasure and a piņa colada if any left.  Also would like a pace and pantin mamey.  Can you hold for Squam to pick up?

Ok, I will try to save the tree from the dozer, and will collect seeds when ripe.

Thanks for your help in having a name for this tree.  It is growing in a thick clump of 100 year old bamboo, trying to find it's way to daylight.  Don't know how it got there?  Tossed into clump as a fruit or came in as a seed with the bamboo?  Either way, bamboo is being bulldozed down to make room for more Edward mangos!  Didn't know whether to save this tree or let it go with bamboo.  Thanks

Found this tree with fruit growing wild in a clump of bamboo.  Fruit about 2.5 inches in diameter.  Need help identifying.  Thanks

Great photo!  They really know how to blend in!

Boron deficiency is said to be a possible cause of malformed fruit.
