Is 6-3-16 w/micros ok for mangos of all ages?
« on: November 16, 2020, 07:38:39 PM »
Today i got fert for mangos, and another mix for areca palms.
I didn't get out cause they know i'm disabled and gave what i see for mangos is what i use on bananas (with great results).  Super fruiter 6-3-16.
I bought 2 15gal & 2 3gal mangos a few days ago & planted 2 so far.  I also have 20yr old Kent i believe.
I've tried it on Kent last yr & didn't help much & had some leaf tip burn.
Can i use it lightly on new trees?  Won't go to waste, my bananas love it.

Thank you,
Ed

From what I have read over my recent times here, that might be ok for the first couple of years for the young trees.  After that, however, those in the know that post here often say the established trees do better with a fertilizer that has no nitrogen.  Other micronutrients are also beneficial throughout the years from what I am reading.  If you are in Southeast FL, I suggest you check out themangoplace site as he has a specific blend for established mango trees.

Truly Tropical has a 0-3-16 blend with micros. That is ideal for trees that are mature and already producing fruits. 6-3-16 is better than 8-3-9 for  young trees. The good thing with 0-3-16 is that it can be used 12 months of the year.

mangokothiyan, I agree with you and, just to clarify, Truly Tropical is actually the same as what I was speaking of when I mentioned themangoplace.  I believe it is the www site for Truly Tropical.

For the conventional fert route, I'd say
Mangokothia has some good advice.

I'd just add.
If your cheap and have time you can switch to straight potassium 0-0-22 when they reach the size you want.
Add some SouthAg micros once every year or so

Thanks for replies, today i put a little 6-3-16 on 3 planted & watered them in.
Har's fert mix i'd get if i was closer for sure.  His old thread here came up yesterday when i googled fert.
Calcium looks to be my next purchase, i have 0-0-50 & the AG foliar.
I have to go easy with 6-3-16 on mangos because i'm use to hungry bananas.  They eat it up.
