Several of my Meyer lemons and Brown's Satsuma's are turning yellow and falling off the trees. These are potted trees. Why is this happening?

Cold Hardy Citrus / My Citrumelo is blooming
« on: March 05, 2020, 09:31:33 PM »
I noticed that my Citrumelo that I have had planted in the ground for 5 years is blooming today. I hope it makes some fruit. It's about 12 to 13 feet tall. I don't really care if they are edible or not. I just want to see fruit on the tree. :.)  I am zone 8 on the Arkansas/Louisiana Stateline.

I have a friend that has a large thicket of Poncirus trifoliate growing on some of his land. They are growing on an old house place that was from the mid to late 1800's. They have formed an impenetrable thicket. There are literally thousands of them growing in this spot. Most of the fruit has fell to the ground this year.

I got them at Walmart and they were grown by Saxon Becnel and sons.  All they say on the tag is Kumquat.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Nippon Orangequat and Yuzu
« on: October 30, 2019, 08:15:58 PM »
What is the chance a Nippon Orangequat and a Yuzu will survive outside planted in the ground in zone 8A? How about ichang papeda? Is it worth planting?

Cold Hardy Citrus / Rooted cutting question
« on: October 26, 2019, 02:40:12 PM »
I have some rooted cuttings from a mature Citrumelo tree. They are 2 years old and growing vigorously. How long do you think it will take them to bloom and fruit? I would think much faster than a seed grown tree and about the same as a grafter tree. I am expecting to see blooms at 3 or 4 years old? Is this what I should expect?

Citrus General Discussion / Leaf miners
« on: September 12, 2019, 09:17:55 PM »
I have some leaf miners that just laied their slimy looking eggs on the new growth of some of my potted citrus. Will it help to spray them now or can you only spray before they get on them to keep them away? Will treating now kill the eggs?

Citrus General Discussion / Citrus growers in my area
« on: September 12, 2019, 09:20:28 AM »
I am hoping to find other members that might live in my area. I live on the Arkansas / Louisiana state line about an hour north of Shreveport Louisiana. I am in a zone 8a. I have several Citrumelo trees that have been growing outside for 4 years. They made it through some 5 degree nights with no protection in 2018 (Our coldest winter in 25 years). I also have two Kimsbrough satsuma trees that are planted on the south side of my house that I give minimal protection during the winter. This year I added two Thomasville Citangerquats. I am hoping to find people with in an hour or so from me that I could meet and see what they have growing. I also have dozens of different oaks from around the country and world and have some native chinquapin trees.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Thomasville citrangequat... or not?
« on: September 11, 2019, 11:04:50 PM »
I was driving along in NW Louisiana a few months ago and noticed a tree in a mans yard that was covered with citrus. I stopped and the guy had some 6 year old trees in pots so I bought 2 of them. He also gave me some fruit which tasted very good by the way. He told me the tree was an orangequat. However I have a lot of doubts that this is correct. Everything seems to point toward it being a Thomasville citrangequat. It has some leaves that are trifoliate and some that are not. The fruit has a slight neck on it and taste very good if ripe. I planted all the seed and got 10 or 15 seedlings from them. I also got a small graft from one of the twigs he cut off with the fruit. Let me know what you think about the tree.

This is the tree that was growing in his yard

These are the leaves on the 6 year old trees ( from seed) that I bought.

These are some of the seedling I sprouted

Here is the tiny graft I got. I am not sure it will make it but I have my fingers crossed.

This is another seedling I sprouted from the seed out of the fruit he gave me.

Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / Thomasville citrangequat (pictures added)
« on: September 10, 2019, 09:43:57 PM »
Hello, I live on the Arkansas/Louisiana state line in zone 8a. I have several citrumelo's growing outside that survived our coldest winter in 25 years a couple of years ago. I am looking for someone to buy a grafted Thomasville citrangequat's from. Stanley McKenzie is out but I plan on buying a couple next year after he does some new grafts. If I could find some from another source that I could get one from this fall that would be great.
