Tropical Fruit Discussion / Rollinia fruit problem
« on: June 30, 2016, 09:53:03 PM »
My rollinia tree is around five years in the ground and should be large enough to hold fruit but it hasn't held one to maturity yet.  It sets what seems like hundreds but when they get to marble size the stem gets black then the fruit does and they fall off.  A friend thinks it's anthracnose and I plan on spraying some copper to see if it helps.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Papaya fruit fly on canistel
« on: April 15, 2016, 07:25:57 PM »
First of all this looks like a papaya fruit fly to me but I'm definitely not an expert on bug identification, please correct me if I'm mistaken on the ID.  Is this common that the papaya ff target canistel?  Any control methods besides bagging?

Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Lychee advice needed
« on: January 22, 2015, 07:13:18 PM »
Hello,

My sweetheart lychee is flowering very well for the first time, it's fruited before but not a lot of fruit set.  It's been in the ground for six years and is about 13 ft height and spread.  I gave it 0-0-50 in early December and it's received only rainfall for irrigation since October.  I was wondering when to start irrigating it again and if another round of 0-0-50 would be benefical.  I have searched online and have found too much water encourages vegetative growth at the expense of fruiting and too little the fruit set is poor as the flowers dry out.  What is the right amount?  When is the right time to start?  Is there a spray that is needed? My mango trees produce loads of fruit and I spray nothing, are lychees more prone to anthracnose or powdery mildew than mango?

Thanks
Mike

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What's wrong with my nishikawa avocado?
« on: March 23, 2014, 03:09:04 PM »
Hello all.  My nishikawa avocado has been in the ground for just over a year now from a 7gal.  It's had some stem dieback issues for the past couple months.  It is flowering and setting fruit and the new growth appears normal.  Is this a nutrient deficiency or a disease?

Hello I'm looking for the best way to propagate the dwarf everbearing mulberry tree.  Should I airlayer it or will cuttings work?  Is it ok to do right now or do I need to wait until its dormant.

Thanks

Hello,
This is the first fruiting of my black gold jackfruit.  I have read that the spines don't flatten and that it doesn't really change color.  I have never been able to hear the hollow sound with a ripe watermelon so I'm not sure if I'll be able to go by that with a jackfruit.  Any tips, or ideas?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Lychee question
« on: February 01, 2013, 10:35:56 AM »
My sweetheart lychee is blooming heavily for the first time, it's been in the ground five years.  My question for the experts is when should I begin watering it again?  It has had no irrigation since September and I don't know if watering it now that its flowering will enhance fruit set or abort the flowers in favor of vegetative growth.  Thanks.

Thanks Mike T and Tomas!  One of the plants that was grown from the seeds that you sent me in mid July is almost two feet tall and already flowering.  Does this plant need cross pollination?  Thanks again, I hope it sets some fruit.
