Title: 9b looking for dwarf avocado and citrus near ocean
Post by: chris1 on April 23, 2017, 11:46:19 AM
I have bad soil and I am near salt water. I really would like to put up a dwarf avocado as well as an orange or something similar. I am in Florida on the east coast due east of Orlando. I am new to this and have been having trouble sifting through all the information on the internet on this subject. What would you all recommend?  Thanks so much for everyone's help!

You should build a raised bed or large mound and use imported dirt.  You want something that can drain well.  Get decomposed granite and mix a little conpost with it in a 1 to 2 ft tall raised bed.  Maybe 4ft x 4ft square.  Use 2x12 lumbers

You might try posting this in the regular Tropical Fruit Forum if you want the locals to respond.  They may not see it here.  What do you mean by bad soil?  Do you have salt water intrusion where you're at, meaning is the ground water salty?
