Temperature difference under patio?
« on: December 10, 2018, 11:30:28 AM »
How much warmer is it under a southern facing patio than in open air? If temps get to 29, would the patio be safe to have potted mango, Jamaican cherry? Thanks!

Get a digital thermometer they are not to expensive and a lot of them will show the lowest temp experienced during the day and night.
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

I would say depending if it's covered with an aluminum awning or something, a bit warmer in the patio but not enough to even matter because if it's covered the plants will not get sunlight. Your question depends on many factors but we are probably talking one or 2 degrees and you are better off lighting a bbq grill with charcoal around 12am and opening the grill vents to allow the wind to keep the charcoal burning slowly until the temps bounce back. Just place the grill with a cover of course. I have 4 small grills I use this way and never fails.

If you have concrete floor on patio which get sunshine all day it will be warm all night.

My patio is hot untill after midnight.
