Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Longan & CRYSTAL Seedless Guava Scions
« on: February 27, 2018, 07:48:08 PM »
Most sought after crunchy Asian guava. It is sweet, tart and the crispiest guava I ever had. 95% of the guava trees I have has been top worked to Crystal seedless. Local nurseries are selling 5 gal trees for $90-$120 if you can even find them.

Also the most prolific seedlessvbearer. Bears fruit in clusters. Must thin to get bigger fruits. Most of the crunchy seedless guavas are shy bearers.

$5 ea. minimum 4 scions. Shipping is $3.5 for first class or $7.5 for priority mail. Paypal is shenxue@gmail.com. Please send as friend or family.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Inga Vulpina Impostor
« on: July 31, 2017, 03:39:11 PM »
I bought this tree as inga vulpina from eBay seller 7 heads. The 3-4 year old & 6-7 ft tree is on a double rootstock with inga feuillei as the added roostock.

It finally bloomed but I was expecting pink flowers for this species but I was surprised and disappointed when I saw white/yellow flowers when it finally bloomed. What can this be?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Soursop Grafted onto Cherimoya
« on: April 11, 2017, 07:46:09 PM »
I got some Cuban Fiberless Soursop scions from JF/Frank about a month ago or so. They were grafted onto cherimoya roostocks and they’re starting to grow. I am curious about the long term compatibility of it and I have not seen anyone evidence of an older grafted soursop on cherimoya tree. Does anyone know if there will be compatibility issues in the long run? I was told Ethan had success grafting soursop on cherimoya but I have not seen his trees.

Anyone want to share your experience?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Durian and Mangosteen On The Big Island
« on: December 30, 2014, 04:47:58 PM »
I am doing some long term planning to start a permaculture food forest on the big island of Hawaii.  Where would durian fruit best in the micro climates throughout the eastern part of the big island?  From what I gathered on the internet, durian can fruit in elevations of 600-900 feet above sea level with 60-150 inches of rain a year.  Temperature should be around 75-90f.  Where on the big island would durian fruit reliably?  Also, what type of climate and elevation deviation can the durian tree tolerate and still produce consistently?

I can’t find a cookie cutter lot where durian will fruit on the big island but I am looking at places like Kurtistown and Mountain view area.  Would durian fruit reliably in these areas?

Durian is the number 1 fruit that I wanted to grow but what about mangosteen?  Does mangosteen have the same climatic requirement as the durian?

I am hoping Oscar/fruitlover and other veteran growers can shed some light on this. Thanks in advance.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Bunya Bunya nut
« on: November 25, 2014, 01:07:39 PM »
Anyone tried growing this in Southern California?  I saw a few plants for sale at a nursery but I hesitated since it can grow up to 150’.

Is it possible to graft the bunya bunya pine using horizontal branch from a mature specimen to dwarf the tree?

I placed this thread in the wrong section.  Can a mod please move this for me?  Thanks. :-[

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Unknown Red Skin & Flesh Guava from Vietnam
« on: October 09, 2014, 03:10:35 PM »
Does anyone know what type of guava this is?  The photos and fruit were taken from a seedling grown in Vietnam.  Both the skin and flesh is deep red and it does not look like the common Malaysian magenta guava that is readily available from home depot.

I spent over $1000 over the last month on mangos and I feel guilty and a bit selfish.  I am selling some grafted guavas to raise money for more mangos  ;D

These are all in 5 gallon pots.  All are grafted except for the Thai, which is airlayered.

True Indonesian white seedless $45
Completely seedless and very juicy fruit eaten ripe.  It's not the crispy green eating type.

Indo A

Indo B

True Indonesian white seedless $50
This plant is a bit bigger than the two above.
Indo C

Similiar size plants are sold at $90 from ONG's nursery in San Diego.  Indo fruits

Crystal Seedless Guavas $60
Flesh is very thick, crispy, and sweet.  The fruit is virtually seedless with less than a dozen of seeds.

This cv is extremely prolific.  Fruit needs to be thinned to get larger fruits.

Turnbull guava $55  -- Forgot to take photos.  I'll upload tonight.
Very large fruit with thick flesh and a burst of complex flavors.  Can be eating green or ripe.  The texture is relatively soft if eaten green.  It's not the crispy type.

Thai guava - $30 -- Forgot to take photos of the actual plants.  I'll upload tonight.
Flesh is very thick, crispy, and sweet.  Can be eaten crispy green or ripe.

Pick up only near El Monte CA 91732

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Atemoya ID --- PPC or Nuathong?
« on: July 22, 2014, 01:39:50 PM »
My friend ordered an atemoya tree from a nursery in FL and wanted me to post a few photos to confirm it's identity.  He bought it as a Nuathong but he thinks the leaves look more like Pet Phat Chong.  I know its probably going to be hard just by looking at the leaves.  There is an out of focus flower photo as well if that helps.

So what does the leaf say?  PPC or Nuathong?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / CRFG Foothill Chapter meeting on Aug 2nd
« on: July 18, 2014, 06:32:00 PM »
Who will be attending this meeting?  There will be a presentation by Tim Thompson on mangos.  I am pretty much a virgin when it comes to growing mango trees.  Just bought an ice cream mango 2 weeks ago.

Anyone whose attending got mango scions to share?  Mango scions are pretty hard to come by.

My coworker have a huge avocado tree , possibly a seedling of a fuerte, that produces large and delicious avocados prolifically.  However, a lot of the fruit have this black patch on one side of the fruit and it is inedible.  Could this possibly be sunburn?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / lucuma at the Fullerton arboretum
« on: March 11, 2014, 02:33:21 PM »
There is a 25 feet tall lucuma tree with a 15" trunk.  The tree appears to be at least 25-30 years old.  Can someone confirm if this is the Inga gold cv. where the flesh is the moist type in oppose dry egg yolk type?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Ground cover for a shaded area
« on: March 03, 2014, 07:30:57 PM »
I have a north facing planter that's pretty much shaded all day because of the cinder block wall but it receives a fair amount of indirect sunlight.  What is a good ground cover for this area?  I want something edible but also will perform well.  I was thinking of pennywort but what other option do I have?

I am looking for some desertnyi pomagranet cuttings but I am also open to other soft seeded varieties.

I am also looking for some soft and chewable variegated sugar cane that appeared on John Khoeler's recent OKRAW vids.

Will pay for material and shipping.

Thanks.
