Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Where can I buy cherimoyas in NorCal?
« on: April 23, 2019, 08:39:44 AM »
Thanks again. I didn't make it this weekend, but I will check it out sometime this week.

I'd check out the flea market in marysville. Less than an hour (Depending on what part of sacramento you are in) and they have quite a bit these last few weeks. I picked up a mamey sapote recently too.
And are you the Merce3 from bananas.org? I just sent you a message there the other day asking about some bananas :P

EDIT: They also have alot of citrus, It's so common that I forget people enjoy citrus sometimes :P

Yes, that's me. I came home but had some family issues to tend to so I wasn't able to dig up any plants. I should be coming home in June, so please standby a little longer.

Thanks for all of the input and sorry for the late response. I was able to find some at an asian market. They were pricey and look like they are imported, but I am alright with that. What else should I look out for? I have been enjoying the citrus out here and picked up some rambutans as well, but I want to take full advantage of whatever is available between now and the end of May.

I am from Florida but working in the Sacramento area for a while. Does anyone on the forum know where I can pick up some cherimoyas? Anyone on the forum sell/ship fruit? Please let me know... I realize the end of the season is approaching.

The Pitogo that I got from you looks great now. Fantastically healthy plant, thanks!

Glad to hear it. One thing that I have noticed with Pitogo is that the first inflorescence tends not to hold fruit for some reason. Sometimes it does, but don't be disappointed. I have always gotten fruit the second time around. I have two baring currently.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Florida Hass harvest time
« on: August 15, 2018, 03:04:36 PM »
For those of you growing Florida Hass in Central Florida, when do you typically harvest? I have 8-10 on my small tree and want to make sure I pick them at the right time. I looked up a few IFAS publications but no info on FL Hass.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Dispute with neighbor about fertilizer
« on: August 15, 2018, 03:00:08 PM »
Has anyone ever had issues with neighborhood complaints about fertilizer use? I had a neighbor come by my house after I spread fertilizer and complain that I was responsible for the algae in our shared lake. Mind you, I fertilize 3-4 times a year and only fertilize my fruit trees. He tried telling me that it was the wrong time of year to fertilize my trees and that I was the one to blame.

I tried pointing out the lawns with green grass throughout the neighborhood as a big part of the issue, but he seems to think that lawn companies don't fertilize during the summer. The issue is very minor in terms of the amount of algae and I don't think I am contributing much to the overall problem.

Should I reconsider how/when I fertilize? Is there any information out there that I can print out for him? It probably won't do much, but at least I can say I tried. I am using Diamond R's citrus and banana blends. I have to admit that they do put off a smell, but I use a lot of mulch so I assume most of it stays in my yard.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Industrial garden hoses
« on: June 16, 2018, 12:17:12 AM »
Yeah I have new brass ends and apex is refunding the purchase price on the 4 junk "industrial" hoses.  Definitely keeping and using the hose itself with new brass ends.  But I still need a few new hoses and wont be buying those again.  I see they have really stout looking hoses at the local nurseries, should probably ask them where to buy.

I would just buy 500ft of hose and make up my own hoses if I knew where to get the good stuff.

there's a company in tampa, fl called amazon hose that makes custom hose with whatever fittings you want. i have had them make me a high power steering line before and it was quality work. it might cost a bit to send to cali, but maybe there's somewhere similar on your side of the map.

Do the prices include shipping?

Also, which variety is the SH-3460? Googling doesn't yield much info.

No, I use USPS priority flat rate boxes which run around $15 for a medium and $19 for a large. You're not finding it because it's actually SH-3640. Sorry

Bumping this up to the top with an updated list of what I have available. I will be shipping on Monday-Tuesday and then I'm going away for about a month. I should have more varieties when I get back at the end of July.
