Has anyone accomplished this? Are we still too cold of a climate for this variety of garcinia? There are not many old posts on this tree.  Just curious if anyone has experience with this tree in Miami area. I'm pretty sure the lower keys has a few.

I imported a new variety called "Big Milk" recently. How I got it past customs is beyond me, but the fruit are consistently the size of apples.  It almost died during transit, but I brought it back just in time. Its only about the size of twig now, but the entire plant is currently a flower, so I'm optimistic to get fruit in a year or two. If it indeed is something spectacular, I will make budwood available in a few years on the forum.

It's in someones yard. If I catch someone outside, I will ask if they know or if I can have a fruit.

That’s a negative. Could be Jambu, but fruit was very small with full color and not very many fruit, which is atypical, but could be because it’s in shade or they may have already picked most the tree. But I still think fruit was too small and more of a round shape

Found this while cruising around my neighborhood. Looks like a big red cherry. Immature fruits are white/pale green. Tree looks super healthy and is growing in almost complete shade.

Hi Ed,

If you are looking for a semi-dwarf, sweet mango that is resistant to anthracnose and bacterial black spot, I recommend an Angie.

- Alex

I highly advise against this. Angie is notorious for fungal and disease problems

Here’s a photo. Also, a photo of our resident Tokay Gecko for no good reason

A tree that I have labeled as Gamboge has some very bright purple stems on new flush. Is this normal or did I mis-label this garcinia??

Some kind of syzigium.

Yeah, I’m thinking rose Apple. It had a very floral scent. Although it was on the ground, it did not appear to be ripe so I couldn’t taste it

What is this fruit? Single brown/black central seed. Near my house.

Not in Sapodillia as of yet, but 100% in Abiu

So with Garcinias in general, is it best to wait until the tree shows its sex and then procure opposite sex scions to graft onto the tree so it can pollinate without having to plant out several of each species???
