Title: Grafting chestnut on oak
Post by: Plantinyum on January 08, 2021, 04:57:46 AM
Got interested in this subject , by internet sources I learned that they are compatible and such grafts have been made . Thought it is still not clear to me which of the oak species is most compatible with chestnut. Has anyone experimented with this ??  Thanks so much ☺

thanks for the links , i'll check them later, i'm still reading on and of the french discussion mentioned above, alot of info there...
It seems its very difficult and there are factors that mess things up that are not clear , I mean not only compatibility ......

I heard that in Russia we had successful grafts of Chinese chestnut on Quercus robur. I cannot say this for sure because I myself have not seen it, but I came across this information many times, also heard that it is possible to graft xanthoceras on a horse chestnut, this variation is more interesting to me.

If you want a short summary of the discussion I can give you one.
But I wanted you to have as much detail as possible about the various cases of failure and success.
