Fruit and Spice Park - Is it worth it
« on: January 14, 2015, 03:53:26 PM »
Hey Guys,

I am in South Florida right now (Miami Beach), and i am thinking in visiting Fruit and Spice Park tomorrow.

Will it be worth to go in this time of the year, or better leave it for the summer?

As i don't have a car, and it will be a hardship going back and forth, so i wanted to know whether it will be worth it in January or not.

Thanks in advance.

I love to have lunch at the Mango Cafe there. During the week. On the weekend is full.

I agree with Adam. This time of the year is great, especially because of the cooler weather.

I passed by last weekend and found imbe, Jaboticaba, canistel, for some reason lots of ice cream bean pods on the ground, loquat, carambola, gamboge, avocado, mulberries and a few others which I can't remember.

So definitely worth it.

It's great to go this time of the year to see what's growing. BTW, thanks for the reminder, now planning to go sometime this weekend.

Do they have a caimito tree, and is that in season?  I want to go next month when my sister (also a gardener) comes down to visit from VA.  I really want to taste jaboticaba and caimito, maybe buy some trees from the Laras.  Looks like there's no senior's discount?

Lara's star fruit is my favorite I also got my caimito tree and Fernandez custard apple from them, they may have some ripe caimito there.

They have caimito trees but the fruit is not ready, they start to ripen starting in February. At least mine do and the fruitlets I have on my tree are about the same size as a lot of the ones I saw at the F&S Park.
