old forum archive
« on: September 29, 2016, 09:47:30 AM »
Archive.org has a few copies of the old forum over the years, but many of the newer ones just show the "too many connections" error for most pages and are useless.  This one from February 2015 seems solid, though:

Thanks for the link.
Real problems with citrusforum started, when they moved server to US, if I remember it corectly, since that time "too many connections" became regular answer to attempts to visit the forum. And it finaly killed the forum.

To be clear, this is just an archived static copy of the forum.  You can navigate the threads but you won't be able to log in, post, use the search feature, etc.

I guess an updated database backup copy doesn't exists? Because otherwise it could be relatively simple for me to bring all the forum back to life on a new server. There were a lot of informations there.

Not that I know of.  You could pull down the entire archived copy, parse it, upload it post-by-post to a new forum with a script.  I was thinking about this but I haven't had time (or a new place to put it)

It's really a pity. Even if the forum was closed, having the database in "forum format" make search a consultation way easier. No, i wouldn't be able to recreate the db from scratch. Ideally if there were a surviving copy or backup of the database the only thing needed would be finding a suitable host. I guess that the amount needed to keep online a low traffic forum would be relatively easy to collect.

If we could get more of the old forum membesr to post here, or get our present embers to do the same,  we could build our own data base again. - Millet

I'm quite sure I could convert the old content back into a db, but to Millet's point I'm not sure if its worth the effort given that we are all still producing new content.

I downloaded it locally in 2014, but many of the pictures are gone because of the changes in policy of external photo servers.
It is approximately 3.7 Go, 31000 files,  14000 folders.
Best regards,

Old forum works for now, so if someone wants to check old posts or anything, now is a chance.

LOl! Forumup has become very unstable. I'm really surprised to see it functioning again...
