No. Po Pyu Kalay is native to Burma. It was brought to the U.S. in 1995 by Maurice Kong along with I believe 6 other varieties. The Manila mango is native to the Phillipines. It is commonly grown in Mexico and used as a rootstock in California.

Nice looking setup. I covered my whole yard with mulch and now want to plant something to chop and drop to eliminate buying fertilizer and move into a permaculture setup. Lemongrass seems like it would be a good crop. Ive interplanted ice cream beans but they dont grow that fast. Ive seen alot of people use vetiver grass. I also want to plant a lot of herbs to attract beneficial insects and ward off pests.

If you like Cogshall id definitely go with that. Mine is a very compact grower.

I usually wait until the powdery mildew clears. Unfortunately by then all of the fruit have disappeared.

Sidney if you want to stop by and check it out that would be fine. I have a bunch of mangoes that grow compactly such as Ice Cream, Pickering and Cogshall. I also have a Geffner Atemoya and a couple Lisa Atemoyas. I plant close as I am aiming for a food forest not a production grove. The trees seem to like being close together although I will have more pruning to do in the future.

Ive never had a bad Mallika in fact a Mallika picked tree ripened was the best mango ive ever eaten. The flavor was so rich and so sweet it blew my mind. It reminded me alot of an orange creamsicle.

Its not my harvest it's Alex's harvest. Coc and Dot are not the same. Coc is from Vietnam and Dot is a seedling selected by Laurence Zill in Florida. Both excellent mangoes though.

I just made another pickup from Tropical Acres. I just tried a Sunrise for the first time. What an excellent selection, a rich citrusy taste. I'm waiting on most of them to ripen. I'm excited to try a few for the first time, especially Harvest Moon.

141
Nice selection! I like the clothespin idea i've never seen that before.

142
What spacing are you using? I would try to squeeze some in so you dont have to remove anything. You'll have more varieties so in case you run into problems with one/some you'll be covered. The new big thing in India and Africa is high density mango plantations. Check out some videos on YouTube. Some of them use 6 foot spacing between trees and yield is expontially increased. Dont remove a variety altogether or else someday I think you'll regret it.

143
I purchased some Orange Sherbet and some Lemon Zest from Mango Men. The Lemon Zest was overwhelmingly superior to the Orange Sherbet according to everyone I let sample both fruit.

144
COCONUT CREAM-brighter green,wider,less frequent wave

LEMON ZEST-skinnier,very wavy,longer,paler green,curving upward at edges

145
The blooms may set but not nearly as frequent as a normal flowering panicle. If nothing sets they drop off and the panicle with the small odd looking leaves remains. I would prune it off so a normal shoot can replace it. I have never let any remain so I'm not sure what will happen going forward.

146
My coconut creams branches grew downward also. My lemon zest and lemon meringue grow at about 45 degree angles.

147
Not the whole branch. Just a little below the panicle and about a quarter inch above a leaf. It should flush a few new shoots from that point. If they dont set any fruit I would definitely prune them off as they harbor disease. If they set fruit prune them while harvesting or soon after.

148
Those are mixed blooms due to temperature fluctuations confusing the tree. I would prune them off but not right away as the tree may try to push bloom once again. Wait about a month or so. I personally would not let a tree that small fruit especially since you just planted it. Let it get established and maybe hold a few fruit next season. The tree looks healthy those yellowing leaves are normal especially with new growth coming. Good luck!

Use bt. Bacillus thuringenis.
