Citrus General Discussion / Re: Rooptmaker new 15 gl pot
« on: June 04, 2023, 03:13:32 PM »
These new 15 gl Rootmaker containers are just been available since a few months ago, wholesale not retail. These containers are too pricey for me at $24.00 each.
These containers are perfect for what I am doing. Old age, weight and I keep my trees at 6 feet max.
I am only willing to pay max $15.00 .
Most of my trees are kept at 4 feet tall 4 feet wide, that’s the way I grow them. I have been growing citrus for a while now and managed to get a decent amount of fruit to suit me.

I use a lot of Rootmaker containers. I don’t use the other kind you are using. I transport my trees a lot.
15 gl pots I use a lot, especially the squat ones. I am not willing to pay $24. Right now I can use a dozen

Waiting for larger Rootmaker pots, they finally are making 15 gl containers. This the size I use but it’s not available yet to retail. Bummmmmmer. Millet might know. They had an offer of 23 0/0 off.
Like to buy a few.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Pomelo / Grapefruit ID

I love Valentine pomelo’s a lot, very refreshing, juicy, no grapefruit taste, maybe very light.
Don’t need any other varieties, these two are all I wanted to grow. Have a total of 6 trees, pomelo’s.

.

Thong Dee is my other variety, very large fruit and very good tasting, another keeper.

Millet, second spray on Mother’s Day? Third spray, Father Day? This adjustable sprayer is perfect for over/under spraying, very fine mist. I spray more than 3 times for my citrus but also for my other trees. Bought a bag, which is more than enough for all my trees for the next 3 years that’s why I store it in a sealed container.

You guys from California have a big advantage over my operation in Arkansas zone 7. So, if my citrus fruits taste excellent to me, it might not tops in comparison to yours. My Xie Shan, shiranui and my others they are all tops tome. A lot of fun growing citrus in Arkansas at my place.

7
If you like super sweets, Gold Nugget is your choice. I am very happy with all three. Tahoe the least but still good to grow. A huge variety is not my thing, because I grow so many different fruits. My quota for citrus is at max.

Citrus General Discussion / How do you rate your Gold Series mandarins.
« on: January 11, 2022, 03:28:13 PM »
This year I will rate my Gold Series mandarins again. It will be the third year they fruited. Have to wait till February to find out. Last year they tasted very, very good. Btw, I converted my Page to Lee Nova, a tad better but also much bigger, great tasting and very juicy, another winner for me.

Got this tree growing for a few years now, do believe sionwood came from Millet. Got several pieces a few years back. Last year got this fruit, hoping it’s a right one I have been looking for.

Millet, at least you can control temps in your greenhouse, I can . My growroom is part of the house heating system, set at 65 in that room. Lights are on between 7am and 7pm. Urea might work, I use it but don’t know if it works for me. Most of my citrus and avocado and Jaboticaba are heavy blooming now. Most of my citrus have a lot of fruits on them.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Flamingo Red Pummelo..Seedless ??
« on: November 26, 2021, 01:26:37 PM »
Having Valentines and ThongDee pomelo’s, adding a new variety would be interesting. Finding sionwood would be more difficult.

13
I don’t need larger trees because we give away a lot. Just like to stay busy, 15 gl containers are max.
Media has to be as light as possible. 12 gl containers would be better yet. Has to be squat containers!!
Rootstock I use are mostly mandarin, no dwarfs, except the Meyer lemon. A little wider now.
I do have a few 6 footers.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Graft in winter?
« on: November 22, 2021, 09:33:40 AM »
My growroom temps are warm enough, 65* to 68*. If you have a fancy variety you might want to go the extra mile and use a heat pad to be sure. If someone sends me a choice variety, I would go whatever it needs.

I do year around grafting. Grafting last week , a Santa Teresa piece of budwood.

16
Grow this Meyer lemon that’s 5 years old, not more than 3 feet tall, not including container. Very productive. Have pomelo’s that’s either 3 or 4 feet tall. I like minni tree’s.

No greenhouse but a Greenroom/ X workshop. Temps for winter storage, around 65*, from November till March.
Red dots are trees I am growing in the room.

have had a few small  immature Chandler Pummelo fall off so far this season.  They have been laying on he ground for several weeks.  I cut one open to see if they still mature when off he tree.
Lot depends when flowering start. Are your trees growing in a greenhouse, colder zone, lots of cold days?

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Should we be bare rooting trees?

I go along what Laaz wrote. If you do it often enough, you can almost up/repot year around. Got about 50 tree’s in containers. All good looking.
Btw, I woke up from a long sleep to find out that the form is also in a deep sleep. Winter is the season for lot’s of citrus articles.

Millet, thanks for the message. Know him very well from the old forum. Asked him about the knife he used , showed me the knife and brand, got one. A real down to earth man. God will take care of him.

Above picture is incorrect, wrong, it’s not a Shasta. This is the correct variety, Yosemite Gold.

23
Some of my Shasta were very large. One of my Shasta tree only carry 4 fruits, very good tasting. Thong Dee pomelo is right next.

Brian, looking at all those small tree’s, are you preparing for a addition? Depending on the forecast April 15 is the due date for me, for them to go outside. They will get a lot bigger soon.
Your set up is all done professional, very nice.
