I Just ordered a Maha from Top Tr. today!
« on: December 02, 2012, 05:04:01 PM »
I was browsing Top Tropicals website last night and very surprisingly found Maha Chanok for sale finally after it has been shown as backordered on this webiste for years. I've never ordered from Top before and have heard many negative comments about them, but after much debating, I ordered one today and the total including shipping to CA is $128. It is cheaper than Plantogram whose price is around $155 after shipping.
I am keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully I will get the real Maha Chanok soon, not just some mislabeled mango tree. I will post a pix once I get the tree, and hopefully the mango gurus here could help me prove it's identity.

FYI.....the picture they use in their website for Maha is like no Maha I have ever seen.  Hopefully the tree will actually be correct unlike the marketing photo.

Also, unless they have recently changed, they did not do their own grafting...so I wonder where it came from.

Maha from TT......what you guys think?

I'm surprised at how nice the tree looks, and how big it is.

I bet it's the real deal.

$60 shipping included from TT is a steal for a Maha Chanok! That's a real Black Friday deal!

OMG, DT,  it is heart brokening to hear I paid twice as you did.  >:(
Just kidding. It is all my fault, i should have checked the website out earlier, but I never expected Maha to be available in the first place.
Btw, DT, how long did it take you to receive the tree after you ordered? Thanks!

From the picture of the graft, don't think that is an Excalibur tree, especially if TT just got them in stock.

That soil mix does look Zillish...but I asked them about Maha, and they said  ???

Basically they said  you can special order if u want, but we have none.

I bet Toptrop could have special ordered some, after securing budwood.

The price for Maha trees is about to go down to a more affordable price soon.

Yep, I think you're right -- it was a special order. I got mine that I graphted from Harry's mother tree. Still don't have a space for it yet, but it's kicking back in a 15 gallon pot for the meantime.

I had a dream about new zill mango cultivars last night. cookie monster have one track mind :-).

We recently sold 100 of our 3gallon Maha Chanoks to a nursery on the west coast who re sold to top tropical. Those are in fact trees originally grafted and grown at Excalibur. We do those types of grafts as well as many others on our trees.

Thanks for the details.

The trees look great BTW.

They had some seasoned grafters convinced they came from Zill.

Excellent. Looks like you beat the odds and got a great plant. http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/c/2785/#b

Yikes, I just realized that they be charging 90$ for those puppies. Them boys be worth their weight in gold. When the dollar collapses (cue for zands to talk politics :-), we can just use 3 gallon Maha Chanook trees for currency :-). Whoever has the most wins!
