This morning, while walking through tbe yard, I found what appeared to be a fully ripe fruit on the ground.  Brought it inside and cut it open.  Juicy, good texture, but a little on the bland side.

It's early November and I see my Pickering is starting to produce pannicles.  Never saw them this early previously.  In July 2022 I cut it back quite a bit due to space concerns.  As a result it produced no fruit this summer. Could this be the reason for the early pannicles?
Also, I know the Pickering is a "dwarf" mango, but this tree left to its own devices will grow and grow.

My Pickering, several years in ground has been going through a succession of growth flushes.  Two previous flushes have been without issue.  This latest flush, however, has withered and shriveled and is dying off.  I haven't fed the tree anything.  What might be going on?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Honey Kiss: New Growth Seems Sick

Honey Kiss mango, planted in ground last summer from 7 gallon pot.  It has had several growth flushes but the new leaves look like the pictures.  This is the most recent flush.  Previous ones have fallen off the tree.  Older leaves don't seem to have any problems.  Any ideas?

My Pickering gave me a good crop this season.  Plenty of fruit, and after a bland handful of mangos to start the season, they were positively stinkin' delicious.  Now, I'm looking at the tree and I'm seeing a lot of leaves that indicate something is wrong.  Any ideas?  Thank you.

Is it just my tree?  My trusty Pickering is starting to give up her fruits, but to date they have all been uncharacteristically bland.
Are others getting the same results?  Was it that lovely Saturday a few weeks back with 8" of rain? >:(

Central Broward County.  My Pickering has produced one pannicle to date.  The rest of the tree isn't doing anything.  Is it too early to start panicking about having to buy mangoes this summer at Costco? :-\

Tropical Fruit Discussion / New Mango Tree in Ground. Tipping Questions

I purchased this Honey Kiss from Truly Tropical in July.  Planted in ground and immediately tipped the primary branch.  To my surprise that cut produced only 1 new shoot.  See Pic 1.  I was expecting 3 or 4.  Did I not trim enough off that branch?
Pic 2 shows lateral branch.  Should that be removed?  It's low to the ground.
Pic 3 is a view of the trunk.  Is that fungus already taking hold?
Pic 4 is an overview of the young tree.  It's about three feet tall presently and has grown a few inches since planting.  It has received two light feedings of 8-3-9 since planting.  Oh, and the ants are having a party at the base and running up and down the tree.
So. . .where and when should this future beauty be tipped and trimmed?
Advice welcome.  Thank you!

I bought a 7 gal Honey Kiss in the ground today.  What's the conventional wisdom regarding tipping pruning?  I'm thinking the main branch loses a few inches.  After that, the side shoot?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pruned Pickering Dropping Leaves

After the last mangos came off my Pickering I gave it a pruning.  Within two weeks its been flushing like a plant on steroids.  Lots of new growth.  But I'm also seeing many of the older leaves dropping to the ground with what appears to be fungus.  It's been very wet lately here in south FL.  I'm reluctant to spray the tree for fear of damaging the new growth.  Should I spray and if so what should I use?  Or is this a temporary phase?

I want to replace the Cogshall I just sent to tree heaven.  Looking for a dwarf/semi-dwarf due to space constraints.  I already have Pickering and as much as I love that variety and as tempting as it is to plant another, I'm feeling bold and want something else.  My preference is to avoid the sugar bomb type fruits and definitely prefer firmer mangos.  I'm thinking an Angie.  Anyone want to share their opinion?  Thank you.

I just tore down an old Cogshall which had grown too big for the area, (22 feet tall).  The tree had also become a jelly seed factory and so down she went.  I was hoping to replace it with a Cecilove, but quickly came to realize that tree is not readily available.
I've read mostly favorable reviews about the Angie and I think it will fit my needs.  I'm in central Broward County.  Thank you.

I'll be heading down to Homestead in the next week or so.  Haven't been down that way in a while and I'm thinking it'll be a good time visit some nurseries.  I pulled the life support on my old Cogshall today and the executioner came and bid it farewell, stump and all.
Hearing good vibes on the Cecilove mango and I'd love to score one while I'm down there.  Recommendations?  Thank you.

I have a love/hate relationship with my Cogshall.  Well, more like I'm not a fan but my daughter and wife love it.  Which means I'm stuck with it.  I planted it a good 10 years or so ago, when I decided I wanted mango tree in my yard.  The Cogshall, I was told, is a great backyard mango, a dwarf.  Well, my guy is about 18-20 feet tall. I can live with that.  But over the years it has been a very sporadic producer.  Last season no mangos.  This year, an early bloom at about 50% of the tree.  It has always had a jelly seed problem.  I've been picking them early this season and so far that hasn't been an issue.  However, every mango is ripening unevenly.  The bottoms become fully ripe while the top of the fruit remains green and hard.  What causes this?  My Pickering, maybe 15 feet away, has no jelly seed or ripening issues.

My big ol' Cogshall surprised me this season.  It had an unusually early bloom and about half the tree sent up pannicles in January.  A lot of fruit held and I already have a good number of mangos swinging from the tree.  A good sight, indeed.  A month later in February the tree sent up another bloom with many pannicles and flowers.  But this second bloom produced zero mangos.  Looking at the tree I can't find even one BB sized mango.  The flowers are gone and the pannicles are beginning to fall.  What went wrong?

I've read here that applying a 0-0-50 fertilizer around this time of year may increase fruit yield.  I feed my mango trees lightly, twice yearly, with 8-3-9 plus minors.  Should I give the trees a sprinkling of 0-0-50 in the next few weeks?  I'm seeing various products available.  Is sulfate of potash the same as muriate of potash?  And I assume granular would be preferable to powder?

Here it is, February 8th, and not a single pannicle in sight.  :-\  My Cogshall has not even one swollen bud.  It hasn't been doing well for awhile and I'm thinking of pulling it and replacing with another tree.  Sweet Tart, maybe?
My Pickering, third year in the ground, has a few swollen buds, but that's it.  Last year it started to bloom in early January and ultimately had 100% bloom.  Only about 6 feet tall it held about 3 dozen delicious mangoes.  Are these cultivars alternate season bearers?  Am I doomed to Costco mangoes this summer??   :'(

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Splitting Limb on Pickering

This was transplanted about two years ago from a 3 gallon pot.  It has grown well since.  Took a walk around it yesterday to see if the recent cool front was forcing some blooms when I noticed one branch splitting and looking dried out.  Any ideas what I'm looking at?  The rest of the branches and leaves seem healthy.
