To my knowledge, betel nut is used from India to S. China, Southeast asia, Melanesia and Micronesia but depends on cultural ties. I have seen dwarf trees (online pics) in India and in person in Thailand but it is not widespread. Here on Guam in the western pacific, we have "red" and "white" (actually a bit of pale pink). Hybrids range between multiple shades of dk. maroon to light pink. It gives a slight "high" when chewed with lime n piper leaf. Medicinal n decorative palm.
