Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Least destructive tree roots?
« on: February 17, 2024, 06:57:37 AM »
My suggestion is to relocate the lines if possible, otherwise you can excavate around them and encase them in some protective material with easy access for future maintenance. Plant roots will take the path of least resistance, if there is concrete or something encasing the lines they will go around it. It will likely need some maintenance in 30 year or less as plants grow. This is a way to do it. Regarding the concrete walls, they will need repairs any ways in couple of decades if not earlier, you seem to be in it for the long run so that's just parts of the journey.

PS: The only plants that you know for sure will not grow are the ones you don't plant, and even then, we can be surprised... Knowing that we don't know is a powerful state of being that allows us to experience greater and more exciting things than what we can imagine.

I planted some 4 in Bahia Brazil (its native range). I planted in full shade, partial shade, and nearly full sun. They’re doing great with no care in an agroforestry scenario. They’re handling our bad for us drought (small amounts of rain every 2 weeks) very well.  Our soil is acid, clay type, nutrient poor.

That's great! Thank you for sharing and continued success!

had them before and the taste is really good, 2nd to only litchi in this family :)
Thank you for the feedback :)

Thank you for sharing Sapindave. We always have what we need when we need it. Not sooner, but no later. In Perfect timing.

I'm not a fan of perpetuating sterility, but the Black King does look good.

I was searching for "Artocarpus nitidus" and got 0 results. I then searched for "Artocarpus" and again got 0 results. I then searched for "Jackfruit" and "Annona" and got 1 page of results for each. What is going on?

Any more info on this? https://herbariovaa.org/taxa/index.php?tid=16815&taxauthid=1&clid=0
Some more pictures and local names would be nice.

I've read that it is endemic from Peru but there have been some observations in Colombia as well.

https://herbariovaa.org/collections/list.php?usethes=1&taxa=16815

I'm planing to go to Iquitos in a few years, the observations in Peru are close enough that I might do something about it. If you know of anyone growing it or selling it, I appreciate the info.

Thank you.

These permaculture/tree planting NGOs are planting a tree for every comment on these videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_SzuUHXP1M

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LCTVO_Y5Rs

So, if you wish, you can plant 2 trees by leaving 2 comments. The videos are good as well.
I also suggest you share this with more people. This is valid until the end of the year.

I am a long time subscriber to Andrew's channel as well. It is worth a look.
