Hello everyone!
I have a small batch of a new variety of variegated pineapple, called "Sweet Stripes"....The fruit is not just ornamental, it's supposed to be good eatin'...the exact parentage is not know, but is thought to be a sugarloaf descendent....the plant has small thorns, they will scratch you, but they aren't terrible like some varieties.
I'm not sure if this is unique, but this variety has variegation on the skin of the actual fruit, which looks interesting. I've seen variegated leaves on pineapples before, but never variegation on the fruit.
I have these ready to ship (all 50 states)
cost is $5 per plug, they are about 2-3 inch tall, still quite small, but ready to ship...these pineapples are slow growing, I'm assuming because they're variegated...they are not the easiest to produce via tissue culture, so my supply is going to be limited.
shipping is $5 per each USPS small flat rate box....I can fit about 10 per box.

I posted a pic of this variety about 10 days ago.The coloration must vary according to climate or maturity.They certainly are an eye catcher.

Mike thanks for bringing this to my attention.
I could be mistaken, but I don't think that variety is the same, the sweet stripes plant that I saw had almost no red or pink pigmentation...even when the fruit is immature.
I believe this plant originated in a tissue culture lab here in central FL.

Saff you could be correct as my brother's one has smoother skin on the fruit. I thought someone had identified it as sweet stripes.

well Mike, you know what this means...now we have to collect both types. ;D
it would be easy to mistake one for the other without seeing them in person...I don't know of many other variegated pineapples worth eating...yours is cool because it has some pink and red....I wonder which one taste better?

they look like they're tissue cultured, and being that you're in central FL, i'm sure you got them from the same source....if I had to bet the farm, I'd say it's sweet stripes.

I'm down to the last 14 plants....I started with only 36...I will post to let the group know when they are all sold.

wait now, you have me wondering...where did the plants ship from?
they could be from the regular variegated pineapple that is ornamental....did the auction on ebay say specifically that these are the cultivar "sweet stripes"?
if not, I doubt they are sweet stripes.

Galka's pineapples dont look like the ornamental o e I have commonly seen. I have some ornamental I can take and post pictures tomorrow.

Checked it on ebay. Yes, it says the cultivar "sweet stripes". I bought them a year ago or so and I think the description was without the cultivar name. But maybe I just didn't pay an attention then. I found out what my pineapples are when I was looking for some more variegated ones.

I'm guessing you got them from FL Hill nursery ? That's the only seller I can think of who'd have them...he's a great guy btw

I also have a few variegated pineapples, but didn't hear the term, Sweet Stripes until your post, Adam. I do recall they were edible, and believe I got them from wellspring (or FL Hill). Is there a way to distinguish the sweet stripes from other variegated pineapples?

Sweet stripes will be available again next week.
The pricing schedule is changing a little bit, due to supply and demand.
Apparently the supply will be quite limited for a while, but I'm lucky to have a steady, but small quantity at my disposal.
The prices are as follows:
for 1-3 plants is $7 ea
for 3-5 plants is $6 ea
for 5 or more plants is $5 ea
shipping is still $5 per usps flat rate box (domestic), I can fit about 5-7 plants max per box.
and for larger orders, I can fit about 30 plugs into a medium flat rate box, for $11.

getting down to the last of my sweet stripes...have about 20 more small plants to sell! they are looking good....but growing slow! almost 1/3 larger from when i first posted them for sale.

I sold out of the plugs!
now I only have about 4 sweet stripes left, but they are in 4 inch pots, and cost $10 ea.
they are significantly larger than the plugs...about 8-10 inch tall, and much fuller.
