I don't have any seeds but I understand why you want US942.  Great root stock.

Yes, it looks like it. US-942 is tolerant to calcareous soils and has a good disease resistance profile, while still producing high quality fruit.

Tell-me if you can source them! I can split costs if you find a wholesaler.

Thanks dpereira.

I know that Lyn Citrus Seed supplies rootstock seeds and C-57 is available.

http://lyncitrusseed.com/rootstock-seed/

The minimum number of seeds supplied is 1000 which is a bit too much for me.

Would be interesting to know if there are any other similar companies which supply seeds of any of the rootstock varieties I mentioned above.

I'm very interested in rootstock varieties but the market for rootstock seeds for hobbyists in non existent.
I'm growing two FA-5 trees, following an old Japanese protocol where you grow a 3 meters mono-trunk as a method for accelerated fruiting. I'll move it to artificial lighting after summer so it grows all year, should break juvenility after 2-2,5 years and produce some seed after that I can provide.

Thanks for the interest dpereira.

I believe that they're doing something similar at the University of Florida to analyze new citrus hybrids and they're calling it the 'rapid evaluation system'.

A plant nursery in Spain appears to be selling seedlings of FA-5.

Thats awesome, I was not sure it would work but that's encouraging.

Yes my trees are from vivergil. I bought a batch and I'm growing 2 trees for seed production.

I am also interested in going in on any group buy for Furr, Carpenter, Bitters (C-22) or US-*** rootstock seeds. Arizona has notoriously calcareous soil (impenetrable hardened clay actually) that has driven the preference towards sour orange, which of course is unimproved. In particular, I know that Bitters has improved canopy, which would provide sun-fruit protection.

Please let me know! I'm pretty desperate to try at least one.

I have managed to obtain and germinate FA-5 seeds since then, but I'm still looking for novel rootstocks adapted to calcareous soils.

Volkamer lemon can be an option, however, plants grafted on this rootstock produce fruit of poorer quality.

I have most of my citrus on C-22 Bitters instead of Seville Sour Orange now.  My trees on C-22 grow better than SSO, especially in the part of my yard with more calcareous soil(shittier soil).  Other advantages I see are:
-Stronger heat / sun resistance
-smaller tree, but still good vigor
-less fruit granulation(maybe due to lower growth vigor or better root efficiency or both)
-better flavor in some varieties(maybe due to healthier tree)

Seville Sour is still pretty good for Arizona soil, but C-22 is better.  Also some nurseries say their citrus are on sour orange rootstock, but neglect to tell you it's not Seville Sour.  They use some other sour orange such as Brazilian Sour or something that grows faster than Seville to increase profits.  Then customers(me) wonder why their citrus still taste like trash after 5 freaking years.

I drove all the way to RSI growers few months back and explained to them im in the market for rootstocks. They suggested C-22 as well. Out of curiosity did you get the seeds locally? I was interested in buying some seeds from Lynn Nursery in Cali but I dont need to grow a thousand trees.

Hey Hammer, I got my C-22's as seedlings from Reid at RSI a few years ago.
He's had a bad year with the heat and is out of citrus currently.
I want to get more myself, but can't find a source.
I wish I have an un-grafted C-22, then I can try to root some cuttings or do airlayers.
Fortunately one of my C-22 rootstocks has a small sucker below the graft union so I'll let it grow out.

Sounds good.  I found a bigger sucker that I can take cuttings from and will try to root it in the garage around Christmas.  Should know by March if successful.

If you end up getting C-22 seeds I would be interested in some if there is enough to go around.

Small amounts of rootstock seeds are a challenge, especially from a foreign country.

The 812 is available from commercial nurseries in FL, but I was only able to obtain grafted trees. My grafted portions all died due to frost and this year was a very cold year, so the rootstock may have died. If it survives, I should be able to get seeds in a few years.

Large quantities of seed are available for research purposes, but there are some agreements you would have to sign to obtain them, and I highly doubt they would be shared outside the US due to the low enforce-ability of international agreements.

If you want to buy grafted trees and deal with the challenge of importation from FL then this is possible.

One of two C22 cuttings I started around Christmas rooted.  I just used a tall low budget seedling propagation dome and peat plugs and Clonex gel.

Does growing citrus rootstock from cuttings rather than seed affect its vigor etc.? I've heard that air layering mango for example produces a very week plant.

That's a possibility. I've only grown one air layered Seville sour orange for rootstock and it grew well here.
This UF research video seems to says no difference:

When you root cuttings of a fruit variety that's grown for the fruit and not for rootstock, then it's no surprise if it's weaker than a seedling, but cuttings of a rootstock variety like C-22 may be fine.  For example: an air layer of Lemon Zest may be weak, but an air layer of a Turpentine branch may be strong.

If it's any help, I tried to buy a small lot from them back in 19.  They said they don't sell small lot.
