J-31 Jakfruit has set fruit
« on: January 15, 2012, 09:28:24 AM »
My J-31 jakfruit has set 2 fruits that survived the recent cold blast.  I wrapped them with bubble wrap hoping that that would add some cold protection. How many others out there have jakfruit (any cultivars) with fruit set right now?  Has anyone tried wrapping fruits for cold protection?

I have fruit on several of my jakfruit trees, but the most per tree is on my Mai 1 seedling that is fruiting for the first time. I am not sure if there is cold damage on the fruits.  There is some slight browning coloration on a portion, but it may be superficial reaction to the cold.

I planted a grafted three gallon Black Gold jackfruit about 3 weeks ago. And, this thing is shooting out a new fruit!  :o It's insane!
I'm planning on removing the fruit, after the novelty wears off, I don't want the giant fruit to kill the tree.
Also, I just planted a 3 gal. J-31 jackfruit, about 1 week ago.
It's great to be in the J-31 jackfruit club.

Thanks. Like I said, about 3 weeks, and this thing (Black Gold) is shooting out a new fruit!
I've heard that Black Gold is productive but still, I never expected this.

The "fruit" or flower that is on your 3 gal Black Gold is most likely a male.  If you post a picture we can confirm.  It is very common for young grafted jackfruit to send out male flowers.  My Excalibur Red pushed a male flower at about a foot tall and my Bangkok Lemon did the same at about 18 inches tall, both were 6-12 month from being grafted.

Yeah, I think you're right.
I'll take a pic as soon as I can with a new I-Phone that was given to me as a gift. I hope the quality of the pics are good; new to this.
It's not the new model, but the one before, with lots of memory.
I "finally" replaced the Blackberry I had.
