Tropical Fruit Discussion / Orange sherbert or lemon zest?
« on: September 09, 2021, 12:48:01 PM »
Hello just wondering if what I have is orange sherbert or lemon zest? I bought this scions as orange sherbert but after reading up on it more seems that early on a certain retailer was selling lemon zest as orange sherbert.   I remembered somewhere that you can tell by the leaves but couldn't find it anymore.

It may be best to find a low or no Nitrogen fertilizer with Boron already in it.

Simon any brand recommendations that has this?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: 2021 Lychee Season
« on: August 14, 2021, 02:56:48 PM »
Picked my last couple of sweetheart lychee today.  Tree is 7 years old this year and 1st official year I let it fruit.  We only got a little over 50 fruits but oh boy they were good, juicy clean sweet taste with 100% chicken tongue seeds.  We had great flowiering and pollination ratio but 95% of my fruit drops.  It was even dropping fruits when they were about size of a quarter.  I will try to give same k mag or epsom salt more regularly.  Sadly I haven't kept that up the last 2 years.
Majority of fruit does not turn red when ripen.  I let a couple of tree top fruit hang well after shoulders swelled and they still didn't turn all red.  While there was a handful in the center of the tree that did.  Taste was the same.   This tree is not a myth.  Everything they say is true about these trees.  They will fruit in California 10b.

Those flowers look like oxalis to me. Pink wood sorrel. Pull it out.

Does it have same benefits as clover?

I have lots of clovers growing pretty thick in my planter.  Are they weeds or do they actually help my fruit trees?  From what I read they act as nitrogen fixer? Any other benefits?

JoeP450, you're sweetheart tree blooms looks great, hope you get plenty of fruits.

Boxturtle, glad to see your first blooms, hope you get many fruits. If you get fruits, please save me a few so I can taste my first Sweetheart.
I hope to have plenty of Brewster fruits this season since my tree looks good with lots of blooms. I can bring you some fruits so I can taste your Sweetheart.

Will do :) panicles  are getting bigger and bigger I'm so glad that flowers didn't already bloomed.  We have been getting alot of Santa Ana winds lately. If it did probably would have been bye bye fruits

Hang in there Brother!

Gummosis I guess.  The tree is not in great health but it can grow out of that over summer if you plant it and give it good care.  Ive had new trees have this and grow out of it.

It's already in ground :( how would you treat it? My guess was bacteria canker? Maybe shave it down to good tissue?

69
It's been in ground for one season.  I noticed it leaking sap couple months ago.  Today I went a removed one of 3 sap balls and this is what I found.   Area effected is about 2 feet off the ground. I did buy the tree from Armstrong nursery  but would hate to replace if I don't have too.  What is it and how can I treat it.
Like always your input is always appreciated

According to that article, lychee buds form 4-6 weeks after pruning.
Here in Southern California our coldest month is February.
We should prune our lychee on New Year Day.
New buds would form in mid February.
The cold trigger the buds into flower buds.

We should try this next year.

Which month is coldest in FL?

Seanny my sweetheart started blooming the same time when this thread was started .  It's a 6 year old tree and will be the 1st year I will let it fruit.  Wish me luck I do see some vexation growth mixed in with  flower panicles  but not alot.

This was one of the first tree I put in ground when we bought our 1st house.  Many trial and error on my behalf  because it was a learning process.  Even being through all those crazy socal windstorms it have put on some girth. Look Mom minimal burn tips :)

Thank you all for the wealth of knowledge you all have shared to this community  🙏
