Finally a female flower (I think)
« on: April 24, 2012, 01:52:57 PM »
This is my Bangkok lemon. It put out male flowers last season but I am pretty sure this one is a female. Unfortunately it doesn't look like I will have any male flowers to pollinate it. Hopefully it will send out some more flowers over the next few months. I really want this thing to fruit this season because I may be moving from this house in the next year or so.

I don't have a Bangkok Lemon jackfruit, but on my seedling trees, the female flowers are larger and bumpier.
But I hope it is a female for your sake.  Once you start getting females, the fruit is not far behind!

That is awesome, hopefully you'll get some fruit this year, even if you have to buy it. :)

Start grafting back up trees!

good luck,

From the initial looks I would also say male... :(

Could go either way IMO  ... My BL female flowers look similar to that, whereas one of my unknown variety seedlings male flowers that look almost identical to your pic.

Hard to conclusively say, but if I had to bet, I'd say male.   :(

Here is a thread on GW that I started last year.  Lots of male flower pics, and one female flower on my BL....

http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/tropicalfruits/msg0517242714460.html

Taking a second look at those pics, still hard for me to tell ..  My pic of the female flower is a bit out of focus..

On third look, I'm going to say male based on the thickness, or lack thereof, of the stalk.

I am not totally sure, but last season all of the males had no collar. Just a smooth transition from the stem to the flower. I guess I'll know for sure soon enough.

Looks awfully male, but I wouldn't mind being wrong.

That flower on your Jak looks very MALE. You either have male flowers or fruits! There are no female Jak flowers.  You will know it's a male for sure if it starts to turn dark soon. If not, then you have a winner!  Check out the fotos I just took from my tree. The single flower is a male and the second one shows 3 small fruits (females).

Just spotted the first male of this year on my golden nugget.  No sign of any females.  Wife and neighbors are starting to feel a little uncomfortable and embarrassed with me shouting and cussing at the tree...then crying at the base.
