Video tour
« on: June 24, 2019, 03:28:19 PM »
I tried to do this as fast as possible so the video is a bit rushed.  We have a lot of plants to squeeze into a 10min  video.  Use the subtitles, it helps with the poor cellphone audio.  I was carrying around my daughter who is almost 2 and getting very heavy to carry.

Wow, nice little video Brad, you have more varieties than I've seen at some old time CRFGer's , and the view down off you hill pretty dare coll. Concrat's on all your successful plantings, really like you dragon fruit set-up they are rocking it. May you have a bountiful year of fruit you've put a hell of a lot of work into your place. Very nice thanks for sharing 8) 8) By the way how cold have you gotten there in Winter? looks like you've got excellent drainage!

Thanks guys.  I just wanted to capture where we are this year with the orchard and archive it this way.  Hopefully it wasnt too boring.

Scott I have never seen frost on the ground or on cars but it gets almost down to freezing a few nights per year.  Its 1200ft and 16miles inland so we do have more extreme weather than near the beach but its still fairly mild.
The steep hill drains the cold air down to the valley below.  And the dirt is all decomposed granite and does drain water very well.

It was fun taking the tour of your orchard.

Hope your hard work keeps paying off in lots of tasty fruit!

Such different climate from what we have here. Can tell just from the vid.

Those trees look super healthy, did you add anything to the dirt before planting?

No I don't use any ammendments when planting on most plants.  On the stuff that is super vigorous and hungry I will add composted yard waste or cow manure.  Things like watermelons, banana, papaya get some.  Any hardwood fruit tree (avocado, annonas, stone fruits, citrus, mango, etc) gets no ammendments.  Only top dressed with lots of mulch and then later fertilized from the top and watered in.

The soil is very sandy/rocky and low in organic matter. Which provides plenty of drainage and minerals without causing root rot.

Very nice property Brad, amazing collection of avocados and beautiful view. I have been thinking about doing a video also for this same reason: “capture where we are this year as an archive” think video is great medium for that vs pictures.

Great video Brad! Everything is looking good, especially the avocados, stone fruits, Cherimoyas and Dragonfruit. I can’t wait to see how the orchard will look in another 5 years. Keep up the great gardening!

Thanks joe and Simon.  Just so people know Simon lives fairly close to me and helps me out a lot and has a lot of his nice mango and annona trees planted here.  And a lot of potted pineapples and some other plants Im probably forgetting.   We have a lot of joint efforts/experiments going here that we will photo or video in the future.

Great video Brad. Love seeing the kiddo involved since I have 3 young ones myself and can relate. You're getting things done, that's for sure!

Awesome orchard, Brad.  I especially like the dragon fruit "trees".  I'm shocked how fast they grow (for a cactus).

And thanks for the help with the misting system.
