Title: Nectarines cracking
Post by: spaugh on May 01, 2019, 10:24:40 PM
Tree is 18 months in ground.  Was a bare root twig and has grown amazing.  It set at least 100 fruits but many of them are cracking.  Most of the cracked fruit is on the south and west (sunny side) of tree.  Its a arctic star nectarine.  I think its on citation rootstock but would have to double check to be certain on the rootstock.  Any ideas on why they crack?

The rootstock is nemaguard not citation.  I talked to a buddy who is a pretty experienced farmer and he suspects inconsistent water (too dry followed by very wet).  I didnt think I let the ground get that dry but possibly.  The root zone is mulched pretty well and I started wartering after the rains stopped but not sure.  None of my other stone fruits are cracking just this one.  Could be overwatering on my part.
