Hi everyone,
Anybody knows the local name in Spanish that receives Ross sapote?
Thanks

Although the Ross sapote is supposedly from Costa Rica, I’ve never met a local who is aware of it. Canistel is barely known as well, though sometimes called sapote amarillo.
Suerte

Gracias Peter. It would seem like is not a very popular fruit there in spite of its popularity everywhere else. Interesting case.

Si, está raro. Another native fruit that is not really well known is sapodilla. It occurs in the forest but those fruits are not of good quality and the trees are known best for the wood. From Nicaragua to Mexico sapodilla is very well known and they have very good selections.
Canistel doesn’t even seem to appear in markets in southern Mexico, at least not like other pouterias.
Saludos,
Peter
