It’s definitely possible without a greenhouse. I utilize both a greenhouse and indoor grow lights depending on  what I’m growing. That being said I have all those you listed in my greenhouse as they can tolerate colder temperatures and save the more sensitive plants for indoors. The greenhouse plants also benefit by getting a head start for the season as they are subject to the changes in daylight length

Nick, would they be fine inside the house under grow lights during winter and outside during summer? Approximately, in which month should I move them outside and which month should I move them inside? I know it depends on the temperature...

Yea they should be fine. I think i moved some out as early as mid-late march this year but you would need to keep an eye on temps. I let a ton of plants stay out in mid 30s in early spring but they were fine. I usually pack it up mid to late october depending on the year. Sometimes october stays relatively warm

Thank you.

I am not sure how well eugenias tolerate dry indoor air, but for sure they can be fruited in containers.  All my eugenias are in containers and are outside april through september and go in the greenhouse in winter

Notes from the 3% humidity mines: Most of the common varieties seem not to mind dry air indoors or out, although stipitata can get a little touchy. Pitomba and pitangatuba don't care. Most jaboticaba don't seem to care as long as the soil stays moist. I can't imagine any of them mind humid conditions either.

EDIT: I've actually had all of these growing inside just fine during winter when they were small, and some of them have moved back outside for the summer, so I know it's possible. Some of them prefer a lot of light though, and do better in the sun than grow lights ime. But they'll need light over winter.

Thank you CeeJey.

Thank you Nick and Brian. Yes. Actually, I am more concerned about the humidity.  Would they just be ok with the air inside the house during winter and air outside during summer?

Hi All

Since I am moving to New Jersey, I am just wondering if there are other ways to grow CHERRY OF THE RIO GRANDE, SURINAM CHERRY, PITOMBA, GUAVA, JABUTICABA in NJ rather than green house. Would they do well by moving them inside the house in winter and move back to the yard in summer?

Thank you all in advance for your insight!

I know there have been discussions about the topic, sending plants to the states with restrictions. But I just want to doublecheck which states we as FL growers are not allowed to ship DF cuttings and banana pups despite them being soilless. Especially, through EBAY and ETSY.

Thank you for your insight!

Onur, I would leave the Parafilm alone for now because if you remove it, you will probably knock the buds off. I would also leave some of the leaves from the Cerifera to support the grafts. When grafting trees, you want to leave some leaves from the rootstock so that the tree can continue photosynthesis.

Simon

Thank you Simon.

Hi

Donkkui and crystal scions I grafted on M ceriferas are pushing buds inside the parafilm wrap. Should I remove the wrapping or not touch them at all?

Also, should I remove all the cerifera branches and new growths and branches ?

Thanks

Hi All

Looking to buy male and female yangmei scions.

Thanks

I bought a poly kit that had steel posts, then added on with a wooden framed poly addition. Then my hubby built a porch and pergola for the front of it. My STRONG recommendation is to figure out big you need it, then DOUBLE it!

I use regular shop lights on adjustable ropes, so I can raise and lower them according to who needs how much light, which seems to be fine for supplemental light in the winter.  Grow lights, to me, aren't really worth the money.

Because my greenhouse(es) have a door between the old and new portions, airflow is slightly restricted, so I have two cheap wall mounted gas furnaces - one at either end. This picture is looking from the "orangerie", which I built out of 2x4's, into the "tropical house" which was the original kit.

The heaters do put out a lot of water vapor, but I still have two foggers, one in each area.  They are made out of 5-head floating ultrasonic mist makers in 15 gallon toy tubs, with a little fan.  They work really well.  In the summer, I also have patio misters strung throughout, that come on a couple times a day.  We have very low humidity here, and the exhaust fans just suck the moisture right out during the summer.
Great fun!

Wow! Your GHs are super cool! I am not sure if I can build something like those. I know they have to be strong so they can withstand wind and snow.

Thank you Brian and Carolyn. Which type of green house do you use? A polycarbonate greenhouse? Are there heater-humidifier combo equipments for GHs in the market?  Or should I build the whole set up by individually? And I should still put grow lights in the GH, shouldn't I?
