Looks like a beautiful onion tree, Luc :o jokes aside :) very nice cauliflora tree, let's wait for the experts opinion.

First I thought it looked like snails congregating on the tree trunk.  Then I too thought onions.  Unfortunately, I have never seen this and have no idea what it is.

Mexican Calabash..:)

You may be right Greenthumb , lots of these around here , this is the first time in 30 years living in Mexico that I see flowers on the huastecomate .

You may be right Greenthumb , lots of these around here , this is the first time in 30 years living in Mexico that I see flowers on the huastecomate .

Funny these things grow all over here, I just never seen one while it was flowering.

Cirian (crescentia alata) then? The fruit is sold here everywhere, and i have lots of plantlets, it's gonna be exciting to see them flowering by myself... in a few years  :D

Curious what they do with the fruit in Acapulco , here it just goes to waste or when ripe a hole is made , part of the pulp removed and filled with alcohol .After a few months it is drained and used as a fortifying - medicinal drink.



What is the difference between the C . alata and C . cujete ??

Differences would be, the leaves bipinnated in case of c.alata, fruit more rounded with c.cujete and very different uses gor both, c.cujete is not used but the seeds that are used to prepare a drink, c.alata 's pulp is used for medicinal drinks.
