I don't want to confuse things, but wouldn't it be best to have each person registered send a single PM to you with all of their answers on it, rather than to post potential answers to the thread where everyone can see and be influenced? If people post to the thread, it's more like who is the fastest poster, than who can get the most right, no? If everybody sends their answers by secret ballot to you (and only one PM per person with ALL their answers on it), then you won't be spammed with a million posts to sort, but it would really be based on knowledge/research and not copying off a faster poster's answers.

Just a suggestion...

thanks much!

you are correct!

that is one fatal flaw of the rules for the contest, we shall change them now, effective from this point forward, what you said will be the protocol.

All the answers must be sent to me via PM, before the deadline (which I have yet to determine)

I will update the rules on my first post!

thanks again LivingParadise!!  Superb suggestion.

Not me... I can barely remember the names of the trees I've been caring for over the last several years. Have fun though :-)

Make sure to send the answers to me directly via PM!

Don't post them on this thread for all to see!

That will only help your competition if you answered correctly.

thanks to all who participated.

I'm finished accepting answers for the contest, (f you haven't submitted yours by now, I'm sorry it's too late)

as a whole, you did really well, even the people who got the lowest scores.  The contest was set up to be extremely difficult, with several trick questions (for instance, M. aureana appeared 3 times, and there were several varieties of M. aureana, so the leaves looked different)

the race was very close, with a tie for second between JohnTravis and Zambezi, they got 8.5 out of 23 total possible points.

first place went to Ataman, who got 9.5 out of 23 possible points.  Very impressive!  Please email me at FlyingFoxFruits@gmail.com to claim your prize, and be sure to include your username for the forum!

As a thanks to those who participated by submitting an answer sheet, I will give you a 15% discount on your next purchase.   Please mention your username for the forum and the contest, and I will confirm that you are eligible for the discount.

the correct answers are as follows:

(I was accepting some common names if the botanical name was not given....I was very lenient, because the contest was so difficult)

1 Plinia aureana
2 P. rivularis
3 plinia hybrid
4 P, coronata
5 Plinia sp. "Grimal"
6 Myrciaria glomerata
7 Annona squamosa x cherimola (atemoya)
8 Eugenia involucrata
9 Plinia edulis
10 myrcianthes pungens
11 Plinia hybrid (escarlate )
12 M. guaquiea
13 Plinia sp. (Mulchi)
14 P. aureana
15 Eugenia pyriformis
16 P. aureana
17 Annona spraguei
18 Eugenia calycina
19 Garcinia gardneriana
20 M. glazioviana
21 Plinia sp. "Caipirinha"
22 P. phitrantha ESALQ
23 Averrhoa bilimbi (left), Averrhoa carambola (right)

This contest was very difficult and tricky. I did not think I'd win. I'm surprised.

Adam, thank you for creating the contest..:)

It was a brain teaser, but I had fun researching online. I have learnt so much! I have a greater appreciation of your collection and wonder what other treasures hide in your greenhouse.  8)

Thank you

Adam!!!

I can't believe I missed it I was on a school trip for the past five days.

It wasn't optional... trust me if it was even close to optional I would have found a way out of it. (Backpacking/camping in the Los Padres National Forest).

It was painful. My legs hurt like a mf right now.

Im really bummed I missed it :(. Oh well, you might do something like this again next year.
