Mango budwood question
« on: October 07, 2019, 10:57:12 AM »
Hi everyone. Does new mango growth have to be fully hardened off in order to use it for budwood? I have new growth that's like 2/3 of the way there, and the rootstock plant is ready to go. Should I go for it or wait? Experts? Thanks in advance!

Thanks. Actually I understand that some nurseries swear by it, but regardless I wasn't planning on doing a bud graft.

Prep the budwood and see when the leaves come off.
I found that some varieties worked pretty well with not fully hardened growth.

In my experience, newly grow budwood will take a long time after grafting to break new bud, but the graft will take.

Last time I ordered around 15 budwoods from Alex and all had sent out new growth up to 12", but the young budwood Cac Hoa Loc still in dormancy but the graft took and alive: the swelled up bottom of the scion is the proof.
