Jujube tree problems
« on: June 07, 2013, 11:39:15 PM »
I was hoping to get some advice on a couple of issues with my Thai Giant Jujube tree.

The undersides of the mature leaves have lots of black spots on them.  Is this fungus?  What can be done about it?

There are sometimes several ants running up and down the tree, often congregating inside the new open blooms.  Is this cause for concern?

Thanks!

Brad

It's normal. Don't worry about it. It never caused my tree to fruit any less. I did apply tanglefoot barrier one year though to stop the ants and it worked.

My jujube (almost 3' high, 3.5' wide) has lots of flowers but hasn't been setting fruit. Should I be concerned? I don't need a cross-pollinator, do I? (It is the Thai Giant cultivar, from Lara Farms). I am worried this tree will be a repeat of my loser SK carambola.

Mine flowers profusely in late summer without set.  Once the temps start to drop it seems to set a ton!

No cross pollinator needed. As Patrick said, they don't seem to set fruit this time of the year, even though they flower a lot.
