Early Gary fruits have more citrus flavor, later Gary fruits have more coconut flavor.
And Don't forget the original coconut mango- Pettigrew.
Frances Hargrave has coconut flavors (more pronounced during drier years)

Very vigorous grower. I topworked an old haden tree with over 20 mango varieties.  Two P22 grafts are outgrowing the rest of the tree.  Definitely not a dwarf, quite the opposite...

I've heard that using 13-1 as a rootstock can increase salt tolerance

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Peak of the season fruit tasting event

Bovine,  I obtained budwood from Andy Baylis for his Marc/k Anthony mango 3 or 4 years ago.  I have never tried the fruit as it didn't produce for me and I removed the variety due to excessively vigorous growth (it was taking over a large cocktail tree and not bearing any fruit).  I had grafted several more trees of the variety that I sold at Mango men of Homestead.  I don't believe that Dr. Campbell has tried the fruit nor was he familiar with the variety when I brought the trees to his house.  I gifted him a tree but, I doubt this variety will work for his high density growing style...funny how these erroneously embellished stories develop...btw Dr. Campbell "renaming" varieties is another topic, with a lengthy explanation but, there is a reason for the season here...I won't elaborate but, Dr. Campbell, like Walter Zill have made several significant selections of mangoes from Gary's breeding program that Gary rejected and discarded- Cecilove, honeykiss for sure, as well as others.

There's two parts to this story. First how bovine saw this variety on a truly tropical YouTube video called the most enjoyable mango of the season. Thank you Audrey from Ocala figure out that it was in Osceola County  that he had resided in since 1987. After Alex from tropical Farms suggested that bovine join the Facebook group The mango Growers of America did it bovine realize after putting on a Sherlock Holmes hat that someone named Andy Baylis  lived on the other side of East lake Tahoe from him had the mother tree. After sending him a private message several years ago we are the best of friends. Here's the second part in the story approximately 20 years ago Andy a captain and the Jamaican Coast Guard moved to Osceola County implanted several Bombay mango seeds that he had brought with him. One in his mother-in-law's yard the other in his backyard which is the Mark Anthony named after his beloved brother who has passed on to Glory many years ago. This mango variety is fairly well known through Facebook community so much so that a cat named Mark down in Miami got a clone grafted tree and some fruit from Andy which he shared with Dr Campbell from homestead who apparently liked it so much that he is now propagating and selling the trees. Surprisingly he has not renamed it such as Kryptonite which is actually K3 Kathy creation of Gary Zill. He conveniently misspells the first name and uses a C instead of a K Marc instead of Mark. Which is a little misleading to the General Public in my opinion at least give proper credit and respect to the name and the men  who propagated this varieties. Thank you Gary zill for K3 Kathy and Andy Baysil for the Mark Anthony. My personal observations of this mango variety the Mark Anthony is that it can be picked a little early and shipped it has a long window of peak flavor which actually gets better like fine wine. Early and its peak can have a citrus Tangerine flavor then later on it's like a golden apple passion fruit flavor to me. The ones I brought to the tasting we're on the small side because they were the first to be ready to be picked off of the tree because it is still early here and 9B I personally haven't picked any of my mangoes yet other than Dwarf Hawaiian. Andy is more of a philanthropist then a pirate profiteer but he does take bright future donations. He and I do like to take road trips to try to find different seedling varieties that are unique. We had talked about visiting Pine Island before the recent hurricane because I had an invite by a forum member to visit his Fruit Stand. If Vince has this event again next year and if it fits into his schedule pretty sure I can persuade him to come socialize. What would really tickle him as if Vince or someone on this forum arranges in the future a mango seedling of known varieties tasting event. There are several out there that are known top of my head black Julie which is a Jamaican Blackie seedling pollinated by a Julie. Another one is Dolores. I've heard of several down in the Sebring area I'm sure there are many more

I receive scions of Mike Dohan from a third party labeled as Dream x Bumpo is this the same that you are talking about?

I have several grafts of "Bumpo's Dream" growing in Miami.  Similar to a Cherimoya, they have an inferior heat tolerance to the other atemoyas that I grow.
One graft that I did, on an original Dream tree (from Wayne Clifton), took well in spring, then lost most of its leaves to sunburn in summer.  This was the only branch of the tree where this was observed.
Shortly after grafting, a fruit set, with hand pollination.  This fruitlet never grew larger than a pea and eventually turned brown and aborted.

11
I live in Miami so, I haven't had to deal with frost or freezes yet.  Ilama growers in Central Florida and California should have more insight on cold tolerance.
In it's native habitat, there is a long dry season from, approximately late fall to late spring.  Excessive rain during the winter dormant period is very detrimental to ilama, particularly the root system.  Also, If the rainy season starts too early, it can have an adverse effect on fruit quality.

12
Ilamas are surprisingly cold tolerant.  The main issue for ilamas in Florida is excessive rain during certain months

I am also top working an unproductive NDM tree in Miami.  I choose the following cultivars: Glenn, Duncan, Pickering, Venus, ST, Gary, Angie and Carrie (the last 2 mostly for my daughter).  They are all relatively disease resistant, compact growers and regular producers.

I doubt they read this board, but if they do, I would like to offer them scions from my tree, prepped and wrapped.

I prune it back yearly, and will have scions available next year.

Thanks Oolie- I'm excited to trial Mr. Manuel's hybrids in South Florida!

Do you guys have any of the mammoth line there? How do they perform? KJ pinks/Paxton prolific is a good performer here (from small selection I’ve tried) and as good a fruit as I’ve had locally.

Tim is a seedling of an Australian variety (probably from PM line)

Any scions left?

Does anyone know if this productive "Fairchild" ilama tree still exists?  I'd definitely like to get some budwood or a grafted tree
