I would say they do best if kept in a pot in partial shade for the first few years. Once the tree is several feet tall it can be planted out in full sun. This is what I did with mine and it has done great. My tree fruited for the first time last year. This year it has about 200 fruits on it which should start ripening in the next couple of weeks. The pics show the progression of my tree over the years.

It’s hard to tell from the pics. If they are flowers, consider yourself lucky. Here is a picture of mine this year. It is holding hundreds of small fruit on it now, and the tree is still letting out more flowers. My tree fruited for the first time last year after 9 years. Good Luck!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Samoan Dwarfs
« on: September 26, 2019, 04:58:51 PM »
I have two Samoan Dwarf Coconut trees available. I purchased three from our forum member Coconut (Jack). Only put one in the ground and don’t have any space for these two. I had sold these already about a year ago but they didn’t fit in the persons SUV. If you are serious, you need a big truck as these are between 12-15 ft. tall and in 25gal containers. I want $200 for each. I’m in Miami Fl. Send me a text at 786-295-1529

So if my math is correct it’s literally been 5 years and 3days since I received the seeds in the mail so technically Sleepdoc, yours flowered in under 5 years.

Just catching up to this thread. Clint I am definitely jealous and hopeful you get some fruit soon, just don’t forget about me when the taste test happens. Over the years I kept mine in pots until last year when I finally put one in the ground. No fruit or flowers yet but I am definitely excited! Attached is a picture of my messages with Luc when I got the seeds from him. Which indeed was in 2013. And a picture of the one I put in the ground. I still have one more from 2013 left in a pot which is similar in size just deciding where I can put it in my yard as I’m out of space.

I have two trees in my yard that I don’t have space for. I purchased them from Jack aka “Coconut” on the forum. They are 2/3 years old now.

It was about a foot tall when I originally got it from Montoso Gardens.

Hurricane Irma nocked this Achachairu to the ground. I was hopeful to get fruit from it next year but we’ll see how Irma affected it. These pics are from today so it looks like it wasn’t affected too much. The tree is about 12 feet tall now and I have had it in the ground for over 5 years.

Snapped my Coconut cream mango like a toothpick. Second time this has happened to me with CC. Going to have to plant another variety. Also toppled over my 12 ft Achachairu.

Contact Jack he goes by the name Coconut here. He has them that's where I got mine from.

How much edible flesh do you get from one fruit? Do they have one seed inside or two? Also I know it's an off comparison but would one fruit give you more edible flesh to eat than let's say a lychee? Thank you for the report!

When I purchased it it was about 12 inches tall I would say 1 1/2 to two years old but that's just a guess. At the time Montoso sold two sizes I got the larger size.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Achachairu Progression

Just took a picture of my Achachairu today. It was purchased in 2012 from Montoso Gardens. It has really taken off lately. I'm still waiting for it to fruit for the first time. I'm hoping 2017 is the year. It's over 12 ft tall now and the trunk is about as thick as a sofa can. If anyone has any pics of their Achachairu I'd love to see them.

I have about 15 3 year old trees in one gallon pots that have to be repotted into 3 gallon pots that I can sell if anyone is interested. Some of them are like 2 feet tall already.

Mine does not get irrigation. All it gets is rain water and occasionally if there is a drought hose water.

I'm in Miami and my Angie's look nothing like yours. My tree gives me beautiful clean fruit with a pink/red shoulder, the flesh is sweet silky smooth no fiber and a slight papaya undertone/aftertaste. The first year my tree fruited it did not wow me but this year they were great. As I said earlier it does have a resinous taste near the skin and the stem. This is more prominent if eaten too underripe. I am not very fond of the resinous taste but the key to it is to cut the skin away before eating or slicing and it is completely gone.

Last Year my Angie's were nothing spectacular. This year I have truly enjoyed them and do consider them top tier. One thing I am doing this year is peeling the skin then cutting out the pieces. The skin can have a resinous taste similar to Carrie. If you don't like this, peel the skin before eating. That's how ineat them now and love them. My tree had over 70 this year.
