Slow growing plants
« on: May 29, 2019, 10:17:06 AM »
Growing plants from seeds, often, there are some plants, which grow faster than other plants. Also, sometimes there are plants which grow exceptionally slow. Previously, I thought these slow growing plants are somehow a special form and gave extra care. However, perhaps, the only exceptional feature of these particular plants is the slow growth rate. Did you experience the same? Did you coddle such a plant for many years? Was it worthwhile? Does grafting normalize the growth rate?

Plinia pithrantha ESALQ. The fastest and the slowest plant (10 cm square pot). Germinated in January 2016.

The slow ones have a genetic defect.
Extra care is not enough.

Il use gibberellic acid foliar spray to speed up the growth and  time until fruiting. Its dangerous thogh because the plants might grow too long and then die .

GA doesn't help with flowering faster.

My stamvrug (Englerophytum magalismontanum) seedling has grown exactly one foot since I got it 3 years ago.
I keep moving it to different spots in my greenhouse, hoping to encourage it, and have tried different levels of water and fertilizer.
Yet, it just sits there...

GA doesn't help with flowering faster.
It does make plants to flower and fruit faster.Read in this link to learn more about what gibberellic acid can do. https://crfg.org/home/library/tidbits/gibberellic-acid-for-fruit-set-and-seed-germination/

Again you quote some text without any personal experience. Test by yourself. Been there done that.
